Charlotte development thread

Midnight Diner back in business at its new location on East Trade Street:

Charlotte should not invest in a renovation of BofA.

They should invest in a domed stadium.

Downtown.

Presumably at the charlotte pipe site.

Or on the other side of down town of north tryon.

If we want to get the huge events we need the dome.

How does a $1.1 billion renovation to BofA stadium change the game day experience? Bigger scoreboard, stadium Wi-Fi, and more dining options in the stadium? I like football being played outside but if you are going to drop that kind of money you might as well build a domed stadium like Nashville is doing and get possibly a Super Bowl, Final Four, CFP championship game, and Wrestlemania.

  • play fb like it should be
  • add dome
  • add retractable roof

clt is curious about wifi being mentioned. connecting to public wifi is like having a tick tock account.

In 1989, the NCSU Trustees approved plans to build a 23,000-seat arena. The Centennial Authority was created by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1995 as the governing entity of the arena, then financed by state appropriation, local contributions, and university fundraising. The Centennial Authority refocused the project into a multi-use arena, leading to the 1997 relocation agreement of the then-Hartford Whalers, who would become the Carolina Hurricanes. Construction began that year and was completed in 1999 with an estimated cost of $158 million, which was largely publicly financed by a hotel and restaurant tax. The Hurricanes agreed to pay $60 million of the cost, and the state of North Carolina paid $18 million. As part of the deal, the Hurricanes assumed operational control of the arena.

[]](Spectrum Center (arena) - Wikipedia) As it turned out, the NBA approved the Hornets’ application to move to New Orleans. However, the league promised that the city would get a new team—which became the Bobcats—as part of the deal. The total cost of the arena to Charlotte and Mecklenburg County was not known, but estimated at around $260 million.

bofa stadium:

Stadium was privately financed. City provided $40 million for land. County provided $10 million for building relocation.

clt says charlotte and mecklenburg gets nothing from the state for stadiums while mysteriously the triangle does

Those in the Triangle love to brag about how great the Triangle is. But what would it be without the state of NC tax dollars? The Triangle is known for 3 universities (2 of which are public universities), state government, and the RTp. State government and taxpayers created the two public universities and funds them, and funds state government . From the two public universities and the one private university, the RTP was founded.

Part of the reason I root against the Canes is the state money going to that building.

clt says the triangle is boring. there is no there, there.

Move your triangle gripes to another thread please :grinning: We all live in the same NC boat well except for those who crossed the state lines to fort mill.

Me to Raleigh…

Is there more public funds going to it vs BoA?

The point isn’t public funds, even thought I hate that. The issue was state tax dollars went to Raleigh’s arena but when Charlotte asked for state funds for the uptown arena the state said no it was a Charlotte issue.

Just stating the facts.

BOA Stadium only gets public money from the City of Charlotte.

clt says we get to pay for our stadiums and the triangle stadiums.

its always sunny in philadelphia thumbs down GIF by HULU

The State of North Carolina provided $18 million for the Raleigh arena back in the mid 90s which helped relocate NHL to NC. The total arena cost was $150mil plus. They have given away a lot more than that for many corporate incentive packages since all over the state. The arena renovations planned for the 25yr old arena are expected to be 200+ million from all local sources.

clt says sorry bud, but that argument isn’t going to work. how much did the state taxpayers provide for the spectrum center, truist field, of bofa stadium?
