Charlotte Observer Coverage ... Change of Heart?

… idk about anyone else but I was pleasantly surprised to see this much Charlotte coverage on the College Football Section of the online observer this morning.

I have really enjoyed all the press from the CO along with other venues like PAD. The coverage really amplifies my excitement. Just got to keep the ball rolling now.

Football provides so much more material, especially at a start up.

There are usually 100ish players on a football team. That gives you a lot more opportunities for interesting and unique stories than a basketball team with 13 players and 2-3 walkons.

Well not all positive…

I just saw this too. Goto #18. What an ass and it’s really out of context with the rest of the comments too. I suppose he’s trying to stir the pot.

This!

Hopefully with football carving out a slice of the paper for us it will carry over into basketball. One of the core reason we all wanted football was that it is such a different animal than other sports and I think we are seeing that play out - with our fans, community, coverage and everything else. Shame it took us so long to get here - but I am thrilled with the results so far.

Same here - enjoying each and every piece the O is doing as of late. The program as a whole feels like it’s gaining traction, and that makes it all the better. Go Niners!!

Scary thing is we haven’t even seen the full effects yet.

I would expect nothing less from Mark. He tries to be funny but mostly fails. It seems his main goal is to mock everything he can related to Charlotte, especially sports. If I thought he really meant everything he wrote, I’d think he really hates this city. Let’s just add him to our list of people we’ll be serving crow to at the end of the season and move on.

I honestly wonder if the arrangement with ING Sports doesn’t have something to do with this. Maybe the Big O requires some grease in their palm under the table to provide adequate media coverage and Signtuare Sports wasn’t aware how to play the game. It may be a bit conspiracy-theory-esque, but the thought had seriously crossed my mind. I think basketball season will really be a better indicator.

I’ve been impressed thus far.

Well, the thought had obviously crossed my mind. It’s also true that regionally, North Carolina is CRAZY about college basketball. More specifically, people seem to be much more into college basketball in NC than college football (probably because of the ACC suck). That said, if you factor in the bias for all things ACC in basketball, you could apply the same to Niner football. We are not BCS, we are a startup, we are generally playing schools no one has heard of…

If the Observer were to keep up with its track record, it could just as easily use the excuse that we are second rate, just like it has for basketball. Again, I’m not stating facts here, just postulating an outlying opinion. We will see what happens come November.

Did y’all read 20 ?'s you never hear in Charlotte today in Local? One of the ?'s you’ll never hear is Do we think Charlotte will have a good football season. So no, they haven’t changed.

“This will be a fantastic season for 49ers football.”
Now let him have it, NINER NATION.

It really is out of context in a pretty dumb overall article. I realize he wanted to be funny, but he failed miserably.

Yes. I don’t think this is a IMG/ Signature Sports thing.

Moving forward, I am sure people will think that people will think that IMG is the reason for increased TV and radio attention for basketball too, but this is all due to football.

We’re famous! The only team to have a TE Coach, but no TE’s. Also the only team to have H-Backs, but no H-Back Coach. :stuck_out_tongue:
