Which could be the reason the Observer knows they can keep getting by with it.
Our conference is ranked as one of the top 6/7/8 out of 29 and the Observer portrays us as being D2. They even did this to us when we were in Conference USA with Cinci, Louisville, and Mempiss. I remember the sports editor telling us they would “run A story on us during the regular season” and expecting us to think they were doing us a favor.

It was more than previews. Those articles on those teams could be classified as advertising too. My guess is we get mentioned in a blog.

The bottom half of the conference features teams such as La Salle, Charlotte
and George Washington, clubs with enough talent to beat the big boys on any
given night, but not enough to string together the necessary amount of wins to
challenge for the A-10 title.
Considering that piece doesn’t mention the SLU problems with Mitchell and Reed, I’m going to assume the writer has no clue what he’s talking about.
If we finish 9th, it better be due to injuries or players quitting the team. There’s no way we finish in the bottom half of the conference this year. Our front court alone will push us to top five.
This morning, the Free Lance Star out of Fredericksburg, VA (about 50 miles north of Richmond, VA and about 90 miles south of DC) had 2 paragraph blurbs on the following teams (I’ll do my best to remember them):
Georgetown, George Mason, Maryland, George Washington, James Madison, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Richmond, VCU, ODU, W&M, and a few others that slip my mind at the moment. Schools like American, Longwood, etc. had one paragraph blurbs. None were filled with exceptional information, basically what they lost, who they may have added, outlook for the year, etc. This took up about 3/4’s of a full page. There’s no major D1 University within probably an hour of Fredericksburg (GMU, UR, VCU are probably the closest).
