Seeing that Rodney White’s daughter Lani was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx reminded me to check on legacy Justice Alexander. Haven’t seen anything about her recruitment lately but she’s still balling out.
Seems to be very little going on with the women with the exception of the 3 we have lost in the portal.
Tylissa Henderson, 6-0, G, Jr. (0.7 ppg) → Grambling
Karen Nimo, 5-10, G, Soph. (2.2 ppg) → Coppin State
Caitlin Staley, 6-4, F, Jr. (4.4 ppg) → Alabama
Seen nothing of bringing anyone in for next year
Hard to recruit when you’re missing your coach.
Recruiting coordinator LaShonda Cousin is serving as interim while Coach Reed is on medical leave.
They have had an interim coach in place since Reed went on leave, thus no reason to not be recruiting
Per Talia Goodman, Niners have received 3 commitments so far:
Da’Brya Clark, 5-7, G, Jr. (13.9 ppg, 5 rpg) Norfolk State → Charlotte
Isis Johnson-Musah, 5-10, G, Fr. (0.9 ppg) California → Charlotte
Charish Thompson, 6-0, F, Fr. (14.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg) Cal Poly→ Charlotte

Coach Cousin lands another commitment:
Audia Young, 5-9, G, Jr. (3 ppg) Xavier → Charlotte
BTW, Young is daughter of Miami-FL MBB AHC Charlton Young. Mother Carolyn Jones-Young was a 2x SEC WBB POY at Auburn and a member of USWNT that played in the 1992 Olympics. Older sister Aerial played WBB at Michigan and UNC-CH.

I’ll be the one to acknowledge the 800 pound gorilla in the corner…Does the women’s basketball staff have something against white people?

Well, the whole staff came from an HBCU. They may just have more connections to black athletes and able to sell their vision better to them. But who knows
It’s what the coaches are looking at for what they are doing on defense and offense. They are not going to pass a player that fits what they want to accomplish. Especially with local kids, you want to get as many as you can. Caroline has stayed on, and has seem to have really taking to what the staff wants to accomplish, even those it a change for her because the coach who recruited her took another job. Not sure if that coach offered to take her with her, but the fact that she did stay should at least tell the local recruits that they are still welcomed and wanted.
Not sure how many teams are in Charlotte highschool wise, or if it’s more just the state of North Carolina, I wouldn’t bet on them not having looked at the local high schools and making offers. Maybe this gives a different perspective to look at, if that is your main concern. I don’t believe any coach is willingly not looking at players, because it is tough for them, so they need all they can to get wins.
Those HBCU’S recruit everyone, it’s not just black athletes on those teams solely, not for each school, though most may be that, not all. You still have to look at all talent, you can’t do that if you aren’t looking at everyone that fits what you want to accomplish on offense and defense.
Actually not the entire staff:
Aaron Swinson - Cal State Bakersfield
Shaaliyah Lyons - Hofstra
Jaylen Pointer - Charlotte (also alum)
Trevor Boyd - Northern Illinois
All very good points. Long point made short, pretty confident this staff doesn’t exclude white recruits
Nope, Nope, this is a trap, no way no how
