Class of 2019 MBB recruiting thread

You have to go out and recruit the best players to make your team better.

I’m sure he would love one but the likelihood of a player that is that talented coming to Charlotte is very slim. Coaches often don’t spent time on recruiting players they know they can’t get

You have to be willing to try. If you do, you will eventually land some-----just like we did in the past. 15 years ago, Butler and Xavier, etc. were in no better position than we are now. We DO have a solid history, even its been a while.

We have no shot at those kids. As of now, we have almost no shot at top 100 kids. We needs to start winning before trying to land elite level kids.

Butler I’ll agree with but not Xavier. Theyve clearly elevated their game since moving to the big East, but xavier went to the tournament like 80% of years since 1980. Theyve consistently been on a tweener tier of their own for nearly 40 years.

Butler NCAA Tournament appearances
1962, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018

Xavier NCAA Tournament appearances
1961, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018

Charlotte NCAA Tournament appearances
1977, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005

Sorry, I meant to use Gonzaga (not sure why I typed Xavier).

Butler illustrates what I meant (maybe 20 years ago instead of 15)…35 years (62-97) without a bid. Then, they become a regular-----similar to how we WERE going from early 90s to 2005.

Then “Rockytop” gave a look-see at someone and we went to Hell in a handbasket.

It’ll be interesting to see what Sanchez does here in recruiting. Virginia got some really good talent, but they seemed to look for a particular type of player that would be a great defender but also had some offensive skills (just not necessarily top-level like most of the 5-star guys). At Charlotte, in our current program standing, I’d guess he’s got a difficult choice to make: a) go after athletic and tenacious players with good length that likely lack skills that would draw more elite programs and hope they either gain skills or tolerate a bad offense, or b) go after less athletic, shorter players that still have similar skill level to what they had at Virginia, which makes defense worse but the offense might still run somewhat normally. Given it doesn’t look like he’s an all-star recruiter from the get-go (not saying he’s necessarily bad, just not someone who’s bringing in top talent right away), will be interesting to see how he deals with that trade-off. I’d guess he tries a), makes good defense and bad offense our identity and hope we get a little lucky with development of offensive skills.

For those that follow recruiting more closely, does it seem like Sanchez has a type of player he tends to target that fits a pattern?

Wake latest to offer Beran, while Rishwain has been extended by Pepperdine.

Just reading that one-time Niner target Russell “Deuce” Dean has been offered by Southern Miss.

Guard Chico Carter Jr. will take an official visit here on Aug 31st. We are his first official visit, he also has visits scheduled for Murray State and CoC.

Today Guard Tyler Bertram released his Top 7, we made the list as well as Rice, George Washington, Hofstra, Brown, Loyola Chicago and St. Joe’s.

FWIW, Kadin Shedrick has announced a final eight of Florida, Indiana, Louisville, Providence, UVa, Wake, Wisconsin, and Xavier.

He says he likes Rice because they are in a great conference.

We’re making TJ Bickerstaff a priority. His travel teammate Chico Carter Jr. visits Charlotte on Aug 31st.
