Class of 2021 MBB recruiting thread

:athletic_shoe::pizza: is gone

I have wondered the same thing, but I think that players who wait until now have missed a lot of the best opportunities, especially better players. Players like Young and maybe Williams should go early if they are going. At least that is my take on it.

If Shepherd stays, I want him coming in off the bench. I like him for backup depth but I hope we have better options to get his minutes to 20 mpg or less.

Amiright in assuming that if Shepherd stays, we don’t have another scholarship toggle?

“…to offer”

A bit of my frustration with this season is all the minutes we gave Rissetto when they could have gone to Garcia, and Garcia is the one big who (so far) has stayed. I don’t understand coach’s thinking behind that. All I can think is maybe Rissetto was extremely good in practice and showed a work ethic that needed to be rewarded.

Looking at run49er’s post above even if Shep stays I think we still have 1 scholarship left if he counts against the 13 total. I think I saw somewhere the AD was raising funds separately for the seniors that want to stay so if true I’m not sure how that works.

We have 1 left open even if Shepherd returns. He won’t count against the total number of scholarships available.

Sorry. Should have said we have 2 open even if he returns.

The women’s team just picked up their second transfer from Kentucky, KeKe McKinney. McKinney, a 6’1" forward started all 26 games for UK this year, averaging 6 pts, 5 RBs and 1.3 assists.

I would love to find out why he was playing Rissetto over Garcia early in the year.

According to Verbal Commits etc, we’ve added a preferred walk-on: 6-2 G Eli Bennett of Charlottesville, VA. Heard his father is a coach! :wink:

That is a pretty big endorsement from Tony.

I wonder if he’s heard of the packline defense.

Not finding much on Bennett so far, but will keep searching. Apparently COVID-19 protocols wiped out his high school senior season.

Vid from Bennett’s junior season, which he spent at Covenant HS in Charlottesville. He’s #25.

Just reading about Horne’s decision and we weren’t in the running for his commit. In fact, his final six - not to mention his original choice of NIU - show that he is content being distant from his NC roots:

I want a 6’ 11", 270# stud anyway.
