clt provides another shot from the o

And of course they gloss over what is happening at chapel hill and state.

Notice they didn’t provide the same amount of detail that they provided about Charlotte?

clt says they avoid it, until they can spin it against us.

Thanks for the heads-up. Just posted a comment to the Chapel Hill, I mean Charlotte observer

I just saw your comment.

Are you sure about those fee numbers for chapel hill? That seems too high, almost unbelievable.

clt says well done. We really need to send this to Dubois as well. The bias is obvious.

clt says a law like VA is an attempt to take Charlotte, ASU, ECU out of FBS football.

As much as I detest the observer, the general gist of that column has a lot of weight.

If I was paying big athletic fees and didn’t like sports I would be pissed.

Probably something is going to happen with all this.

Big athletic fees with the revenue that some of these schools are bringing in is not sustainable.

Hell I don’t know if it is sustainable anywhere.

The whole thing is a big mess to be honest.

Now that I’m looking down the barrel at college expenses these things mean way more to me.

Here you go. Use the attached Google search. Sorry that met iPad isn’t copying links very well

clt agrees that the fees stink, but they took deliberate shots at us.

I do not know of any Niner fan on this board that would argue with clt’s statement.

clt says it never stops. They want us to go away.

I found the fee schedule and it looked like 956.46 for a typical undergrad but you have to remember that’s not all athletics. Athletics is buried in that number.

As much as I detest unc cheat we have to be accurate.

Well, fees could be charged on a sliding scale according to what services the student wants to buy. Obviously, someone working a full time job and going to school may not be interested in attending athletic events and their fees could be reduced accordingly. The way fees work now seem to me to be similar to buying a bunch of cable channels you don’t want just to get a few that you do want.

Chapel Hill needs their fees. They do not yet have gold plated seats in their softball stadium.

clt says they could mention the $10M spent by UNC CHeat on attorneys to attempt to cover up the largest fraud in NCAA history.

No need to take shots at at start up program that was overwhelmingly supported by a student body vote.

Cable bundling is a great comparison.

And you know that is starting to go away now. I fforget the provider but there is at least one that is unbundling sports because so many people are complaining about it and cutting off their cable.

It’s a different world now.

People either can’t afford or just won’t stand for these high fees anymore.

That could trickle into college sports.

ESPN just laid off a lot of people.

Could be the bursting of the sports bubble.

And CUSA needs a new TV contract.

Not good timing for us.

Without cable bundling many, many channels would cease to exist. Not enough subscribers would pay what they cost as stand-alone. Mad Men might not have found a home. If each student got to select which fees they paid ala carte it would be the same. Bye bye sports. I think a more apt metaphor might be that the current situation conforms to the Bernie Sanders viewpoint–the majority wanted it, now everybody has to pitch in. Sports-equality. What college student can’t get behind that? Let’s face it, if there was a market for college degrees at schools without sports it would get filled. Instead, people enroll at Charlotte, NCSU, etc.

Sports might skew ever so slightly back toward the ideal of real student athletes, but not so much that anyone could notice. Revenue from other sources like media contracts and booster support is plenty enough.
