It’s on the front page online, though it should probably be the main headline.
Shockingly it is actually on the front page of the observer web page.
How soon does the Carolina marketing machine start the smear campaign on McCants? I’m sure he will be portrayed as a problem child who was an aberration.
clt says it is now on deadspin: http://deadspin.com/rashad-mccants-made-the-deans-list-at-unc-without-atte-1587050360
LOVE IT!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
So when does the 2005 Nat’l Title get revoked from UNC-CH?
When does the NCAA force UNC-CH to fire Roy Williams, & no other school can hire him for 3-5 years without a show cause penalty? This seems a lot worse than Kelvin Sampson at OU & IU.
we need to watch out. Chapel Hill does this and the NCAA will take our football team away. It’s how they operate.
Don’t we have some chapel hill grads on this board? I think it will add to the board if we can hear the thoughts of the chapel hill fans. What are your feelings on all this shit?
clt says the story is still leading on espn.com
Wonder if the NCAA will still consider this just an “academic scandal” and not an athletic one. Not that this is really anything new, since McCants is basically saying what everyone else concluded before, that of course coaches and the AD knew these paper classes were going on and were directing athletes into them to keep them eligible. This is the definition of loss of institutional control, when everyone involved is making unscrupulous decisions, but I doubt that word gets thrown out by the NCAA against one of their blue bloods.
I doubt they will do anything about it at all actually, because they can’t possibly undermine the cash cow that is UNCheat basketball by applying rules evenly to all programs. Imagine if Charlotte got caught doing this, it’d be the death penalty for sure to show an example that athletic programs can’t knowingly put their athletes in fake classes to keep them eligible.
That McCants made the Dean’s list with fake classes is hilarious though.

The loop hole that they are using is laughable - that any student could take those same courses, so it wasn’t just an athletics thing. Kind of like how Kentucky built a crazy insane posh dorm for their basketball team, but it’s ok as long as a handful of regular students can live in it too. What would be nice is if the accreditation of the school would come under question.
Fixed this for you.
Also, I don’t see how you couldn’t say this is an athletic scandal when one of his summer school grades was changed for a semester grade to keep him eligible with direct knowledge by the coach. I agree though I don’t really see the NCAA doing anything about this even though AD and coaches lied to them directly about not knowing what was going on. I’m sure lying to the NCAA by Ol’ Roy and his cronies won’t get near the penalty Dez Bryant got for lying to them.
Could McCants, now providing this information from 04-05 not be punishable due to statute of limitations?
Not be punishable for what? The statue of limitations has expired, but what criminal act did he commit? All he did was get an “A” for not going to class. That is not exactly a criminal offense on his part.

I am incredulous at how this continues to be swept under the rug and ignored. That school is coated in Teflon. It is unreal. If this was any other program, it would be pretty close to the sequel to SMU’s death penalty in the 80’s.
But they weren’t in a power conference. Two sets of rules. The NCAA sucks.
Tar Heel fans are standing behind their team and condemning McCants. If I were them, I would be disgusted in the integrity of the AD and university. I guess it’s just the Carolina Way. I’m sure they will find some way to sweep this under the rug.
Fans might be but many alums are as disgusted as we are. The alums have more in this fight that the walmart heel fans who just care about winning in basketball.
some Ram’s Club members and big donors are way beyond fed up. this is a fact known by many, many!
williams response was lame, ill-advised, and inappropriate to the max. for him to appeal to the wonderful educational opportunity these young student-athletes have been afforded, after having been drawn and quartered for two years about the farcical academic environment that supported the major athletic teams…well, i think he’s a dope for bringing it up at all. he’d have come out better if he’d commented on all the poon-tang they collected while enrolled. (can i say that here?)

If Charlotte got caught doing this the state legislature and NCAA would convert out athletic facilities into classroom space, fill in the bowl of Richardson stadium with concrete and forbid intramural sports from ever being played on our campus.
