clt says we are 201

clt says we are considered a national school now, just like Harvard.

UNC-east is not ranked. Not national

appy is a regional school.

What is even more important is that we are one of the ranked national schools. There are many other schools that they considered “national” but did not rank (they are designated as RNP, Rank Not Provided.) Just look around and you will see that we are ranked ahead of a bunch of national schools that are pretty well known, including Georgia State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Old Dominion, Akron, University of North Texas, Southern Miss, UTEP, U Texas - Arlington, U Texas - San Antonio, UW Milwaukee, Wichita State, and of course ECU.

App is still listed as a “regional” university. Literally they are not in the same league (kind of like FCS vs. FBS, since this is a sports board!) I think to their credit, their mission is to be a very solid undergrad school and they fill that mission well. Our mission is to be a major research university, with undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs that are nationally relevant. We are doing exceedingly well in meeting that mission.

Over the past decade this University’s academic programs have risen more in national prominence than almost any other University in the country. True, we had more room to rise than others (a decade ago we were still considered a “regional” school by many), but this type of improvement is a real testament to a huge amount of hard work of a lot of people at the University as well as to some very good leadership by the Chancellor and his team.

Also of note, the University is claiming to be the third largest in the state. Meaning, we just surpassed UNC-East for the first time in size. I couldn’t find any numbers published publicly for this year, to verify, but I know we’ve been within a few hundred the past couple of years.

what are the average sat’s and gpa now? i know it has gone up a little bit but as i recall, not as much as we would hope.

Fall 2013 Enrollment:
NC State: 34,009
UNC-Chapel Hill: 29,127
ECU: 26,887
Charlotte: 26,571

That is from fall 2013. In fall 2014 the Charlotte went over 27,200 and did in fact pass ECU (not Chapel Hill) in enrollment.

No.

I know, I was just providing available data that I could find to show that we’re smaller than Chapel Hill, responding to Niner National. The 2014 numbers aren’t published on the UNC System website, so only going by what data I could find. I haven’t seen any other mention of us becoming 3rd in size besides that US News article.

clt says we are getting bigger and better.

No.[/quote]I assumed the list was only referring to undergraduates, I was incorrect.

We ARE larger than Chapel Hill if you are only considering undergraduate enrollment.

We have a larger undergraduate population than Chapel Hill, I think that’s what people are thinking of.

OK, but that is kind of odd. 99% of the time “enrollments” that are reported include all students (usually with a breakdown of grads and undergrads) but listed in order of TOTAL enrollment.

This is great news. Our rapid growth and resulting looser admission standards really had a huge effect on our rankings since the '90’s. It’s good to see the tide turning. Didn’t someone recently post that the % of applicants admitted is now lower than App?

I don’t know if anyone posted this, but it is true. Even in 2013, our acceptance rate was 62% vs. 64% at App and apparently our rate got even lower this year.

A quote from the Niner Times, which actually just posted an article on the growth of the University:

The middle 50 percent of freshman had GPAs ranging from 3.6-4.3 and SATs ranging from 1540 to 1770.
