clt says we are 201

Over 17,000 applicants last year and under 4500 accepted.

Anyone want to go post this on the Apy board to stir the pot?

really?

It’s 3,200 accepted out of 17,000. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/04/07/4824433/what-to-do-if-you-didnt-get-into.html#.VBnst0pdW85

I remembered seeing this letter on Twitter a while ago, so I tracked it down again…

Wow! The Observer article says:

[ul][li]UNC Charlotte - 17,000 applications for 3200 spots - 18.8% acceptance rate[/li]
[li]UNC-Chapel Hill - 31,300 applications for 8790 spots - 28% acceptance rate[/li]
[li]NC State - 20,200 applications for 10,000 spots - 49.5% acceptance rate[/li][/ul]
Can this be correct? The acceptance rate just does not seem right, and the number of acceptances does not either. Is it because CH and NCSU have to extend a lot more acceptances than they have spots available because they are a safety school to so many applicants that end up going elsewhere?

Over 17,000 applicants last year and under 4500 accepted.[/quote]
That is not correct. We “enrolled” 3300 out of nearly 16,000 FRESHMEN applications. The acceptance rate was ~62%. (ie; some who were accepted, chose not to enroll here as is the case at all schools).

clt says no need to bother with a lowly regional school. however, clt would like to see gonzoo spin that story.

Haven’t we been 201 for a while? And realistically couldn’t we be higher but for Dubois refusing to submit the statistics/data used to determine these rankings?

We were 199 last year.

I’m really proud of the school and the progress that has been made. It’s also sobering to have to admit that I probably couldn’t get in now. Not with the grades I had in HS! Glad I got in when I did.

The school really has made a lot of progress, which is great to see. I’d love to see it make more. I’ve always been a fan of considering how a degree will be valued in 20 years when selecting a college, and I think ours will only continue to rise in value.

EMF: that says there were 17,000 applications for 3,200 spots. More were accepted. They accept a higher amount based on fairly accurate predicted yield rates. So they may have accepted 8,000 for that 3,200 to enroll.

Something I found interesting, I looked through to see how many FBS schools are not considered to be National Universities. There are 11 total, none come from the AAC, P5 conferences, or independents. Sun Belt has 5, MW 3, C-USA 2, and MAC 1. The 11 schools are:

Marshall
Western Kentucky
Eastern Michigan
Boise State
Fresno State
San Jose State
Appalachian State
Arkansas State
ULM
Texas State
Troy

They’re considered a national university but RNP (they don’t publish the rankings past the top couple hundred, just put them all as RNP).
