Wilmington is a growing city with some opportunity to get the community involved in the winter months with little competition for entertainment and sponsorship dollars. They are situated better than a school out in the middle of nowhere.
If UNCW can raise anywhere near $20M, then probably need to revisit the student athletic fee, which is almost $820.
I find it hard to believe this cap will be enforceable.
Not from the perspective of people doing it under the table.
From the perspective of star players a,b,c,x,y,x are going to have their NIL earnings capped??
I think not.
Thatās another losing lawsuit waiting to happen.
Why is there a cap at all?
This is NIL money.
The market dictates what NIL is worth.
Edit.
Iām dumb. Itās revenue sharing not NIL.
Ok rant #2!!!
How the hell can you revenue share when youāre dependent on student fees like us and UNCW.
This is sooooo going to backfire on any school that does this.
Class action lawsuit on behalf of students.
Slam dunk in court.
A. Itās immoral.
B. Itās stupid.
If youāre not cash positive without student fees you do not have revenue to share.
Period.
They are playing with fire.
They donāt want the heat that is coming.
Hope you donāt mind if I repost this:
Weāve been saying the end result here is employees with no eligibility rules and no academic strings.
This is one time I have to agree with Bilas. The basketball player in question graduated from high school, was admitted by Villanova, and is attending classes. Odd that NCAA says he can receive financial aid from VU, practice with the team and even travel, but he canāt play because someone tucked away in an office on the outskirts of downtown Indianapolis decided his coursework as a student in Belgium isnāt up to snuff. BTW, the hoopster in question is the son of Odell Hodge, two time CAA POY during his collegiate playing days at ODU.
There are two things - I can agree with this case but Bilas didnāt say this case he said
āCan the NCAA please just get out of the eligibility business?ā
Thatās not just this case. Thatās in totality. If the NCAA exits eligibility standards and application then thatās no standards.
I checked on the school Hodge attended after arriving in the US from Belgium and itās a 100+ year old accredited Catholic high school in New Jersey. So not some recently created sports-focused school like Combine Academy in Lincolnton (BTW - not calling CA illegitimate).
I have reminded myself that itās the members of the NCAA who make the rules. If not for past academic shenanigans, then the supposedly independent NCAA Clearinghouse for D-I + D-II athletes wouldnāt have been created.
Anyway, will be interesting to see how things shake out post-election.
lol those eligibility rules arenāt going to last much longer.
Was just a matter of time
Do fans really want to see a guy play QB in college 10+ years? How do you develop new talent?
clt says biff needs to call reynolds today
Should I even bother posting ābut Jay Bilas saidā¦ā?
