College athlete compensation - NIL etc 💰

Interesting “loser leaves town” story about the football Cardinals departing Chicago for St. Louis but I’m reading team relocated by NFL to counter the then separate upstart AFL from entering that market.

Interesting discussion. I think there is some merit to it in regards to the majority of players.

Ah I recalled it incorrectly. Here it is. Such a cool piece of history that you played a game with this on the line.

The American Professional Football Association, the direct forerunner of the NFL, began play in 1920. The Cardinals faced an immediate challenge for territorial rights in Chicago from a team named the Tigers, who joined the league after the organizational meeting on September 17. O’Brien and the Cardinals promptly challenged the Tigers to a game, with the losers to leave town. The Cardinals won the game and the franchise rights when the legendary Paddy Driscoll scored the only touchdown in a 6-0 victory.

Tulane seems very organized in this area. Both outside staff and inside staff on NIL and Roster management.

(Hopefully you can read that link)

There is no east way to implement a salary cap. I believe that the NFL has one because the players are unionized, and the Union agreed to it.

highest I see him on mocks in middle 2nd round, 2nd round contracts avg 8m over 4 yrs. He turned down 8m for 1yr. What is this kid thinking?

clt asks what happens at lsu? does a mens gymnast earn the same NIL as dunn?

Ewers has already made around $7.5 million on NIL. He’ll be fine.

The real question is how is it impacting over all AD giving.

Last year our AD told me nationally what they were seeing is NIL was not substantially new money but redirected existing giving. Would be curious to see what those total numbers look like. If NIL is going up but overall AD giving is going down thats differing than if AD giving is holding steady and NIL is going up.

Anyone who didn’t see this coming was blind. This ruling is irrelevant, as would be any change in it by the next administration. In the end, it will be litigated in the courts, and the courts will follow precedent. That will almost certainly reinstate this ruling, even if it is rescinded.

Maybe he thinks his stock is as high as it will ever be and/or he doesn’t want to take classes anymore.

At least some folks in the media are bringing this up and acknowledging what’s happening. Compare this with Jays destroy it all position.

I believe Charles when he says he has no idea where college sports are going. And yet every year during the Big Dance we have to listen to him pontificating about something he knows basically nothing about. I like Barkley but like Bilas, loves the sound of his own voice.
