FSC schools also subject to CSC rulings if they chose to opt in, which most did. Same with schools that donât play football at all.
It is crazy how much debt USF is taking on with this and new stadium to be eventually left out of any P4 break away. Who is advising them on the eventual benefits of this? What is their ceiling as far as moving up? ACC? ACC could be toast. What is their end game vision?
They are probably trying to follow in SMUâs footsteps. Iâm just not sure where USF is getting the money. They call it an internal loan, but loans typically have to be paid back. How is giving $20 million a year to athletes going to increase your revenue enough to ever pay that back. It just sounds like they are mooching off of the hospital or other university funds as a last ditch effort to go P4.
I was gonna post that USFs debt situation seemed misguided but thought better of it. Glad Iâm not the only one who thinks it seems misguided.
I donât get the concept of putting all that on the credit card.
I suppose as an internal loan maybe itâs interest free.
But like you all said whatâs the endgame?
We are set for a huge increase in our roster investment next season.
We will see what Albin can do with a regular offseason, 1 season of aac experience and significantly more funds.
NWA, why do you say âsignificantly more fundsâ?
Was told last night by folks that are directly involved.
ACC or Big XII.
At the end of the day does it really matter if breakaway happens. That stadium financing is crazy even in an average economy. With a downturn look out.
Itâs certainly a gamble, but theyâve seen whatâs happened for many of their peers that were more invested than they have been in athletics the last 10 years. UCF, Houston, and Cincy in a different stratosphere than them now, and you could argue that USF was ahead of them 20 years ago.
Not to mention, they have the money. Wealthy donor base, good academics and a ton of students.
In some alternate universe we have a leader that goes all in on football in the 90s when USF did.
That would have been Jeff Mullins but a unc rule prevented that.
Could end up a âbe careful what you wish forâ scenario for UGA. Nothing wrong with trying to recoup the $30K but asking for over 10x that amount in damages? Anyway, weâll see if the Dawgs are any more successful than Arkansas has been in attempting to claw back NIL or Wisconsin in their case against Miami for alleged poaching.
