Yes still salty about that statement.
How the hell does SMU have this much money around their program???
SMU Alumni are loaded. Money school.
Pony Express!
Itâs funny to be honest. A great 30 for 30 on ESPN on SMU and the death penalty and now itâs perfectly legal.
Full circle I suppose
Hereâs the SI story per above:
âagainst the schoolâs wishesâ - this makes me hope there may be some kind of regulation for this. Probably would be toothless if itâs the NCAA though.
According to those with knowledge of player contracts, collectives at the elite Power 5 programs have developed a baseline of about $50,000 per football player a year. The price tag for elite recruits is often at least $100,000 in NIL salary, says LSU booster and Baton Rouge attorney Gordon McKernan, who himself will pay $500,000 in NIL deals this year.
There are and have been regulations against it. They are being ignored and not being enforced.
âSpecifically, the guidance defines as a booster any third-party entity that promotes an athletics program, assists with recruiting or assists with providing benefits to recruits, enrolled student-athletes or their family members,â the NCAA release said. âThe definition could include âcollectivesâ set up to funnel name, image and likeness deals to prospective student-athletes or enrolled student-athletes who might be considering transferring."
The NCAA added a reminder: Recruiting rules bar boosters from recruiting or providing benefits to prospects.
clt says the ncaa proved feckless after UNC CHeat committed the largest academic fraud in college sports history with no penalties
Well why isnât USC suing these people to stop them?!?!
I imagine there is already a NIL Ponzi scheme being orchestrated right now.
The NCAA may already be investigating USC after hearing about the NIL deal that was rumored to be offered to the Pitt wide receiver
USCs reaction to a possible NCAA investigation.
This is why the top of the P5 just needs to go ahead and break away. If someone pays their players at the little league world series that team would get disqualified. But half of NCAA football is doing this, itâs completely against the rules and the NCAA tip toes around it. Laughing at it is stupid because itâs going to be the end of our athletic department if some kind of governing body doesnât step up and enforce the rules that are intended to level the playing field. Even if we do establish a collective, Iâm afraid itâs going to be embarrassing to see what we raise compared to some other schools we consider to be our peers. We are a 3rd world country trying to fight in a world war 3 no holds barred royal rumble. Weâre not going to survive unless something changes. We had a very small window to jump through before the haves were permanently separated from the have nots. The things that have happened in the last two years have made that nearly impossible.
Here is a huge issue. If we start a collective and kids start getting money then the students should demand they stop paying a fee. Why are they paying a fee if kids are getting paid? If that happens it all falls apart. For us and many other schools.
