More on Gottfried, Early and Smith:

https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/article232509892.html

Call 911!! I’m laughing my ass off.

The good news is they can probably fire him with cause at any point they want to, and owe him nothing.

Is Gottfried contending Early paid $40,000 out of his own pocket to make these payments to Smith’s family? If it was basketball funds, maybe he told the bookkeeping staff it was to pay overdue library book fines for hoopsters.

Gottfried took Harrick with to evaluate a prospect? Harrick was fired at UCLA for lying to the compliance office about who he took to dinner on the University’s tab. Some of the meals he was trying to get reimbursed for were eaten by people who shouldn’t have been involved in the recruiting process. Harrick was fired a year after he led UCLA to the NCAA title.

He was hired by Rhode Island and then Georgia. At Georgia, his son taught the Phys Ed Class that gave hoopsters passing grades for answering joke questions. Georgia wasn’t clever to assert the farcical classes were open to all students.

Harrick is an assistant at Cal State-Northridge at age 80. He turns 81 on July 25th. Who is the oldest coach to be involved in recruiting violations?

As we already know, Early was the alleged “middleman” between Smith and then Addidas consultant TJ Gassnola, so the money wasn’t coming directly out of Early’s pocket. Good recap below by SI:
