College Football Playoff 🏆

Unless you think you have a legit chance to win the title, why would you want a bye?

Using Boise as an example.

What will be better for their fans and their program?

  1. Hosting a first round game on campus and have their best chance for an upset win to advance?

Or

  1. Getting the bye, travel to a neutral site and likely lose?

#1 looks damn attractive to me. And so much more fun.

Give me the home game on campus every time.

Also, I predict after the returns on these on campus first round games come in (revenue, fan engagement, fun, etc.) you will see a clamoring to move to 16 so every higher seed gets a home game.

IMO, this is a very good call, and will make your first point moot. I fully expect it to go down like you say, because money matters more than championships now, as unlikely as that sounds… Also the conferences that get their teams left out this year are going to push the sentiment over the top.

Can’t remember where I read it, but writer hit on the head by recognizing the CFP for what it is - a made of TV event meant to maximize viewership and financial return. Championships are secondary.

Not sure if I buy that take completely.

Giving access to good teams to the playoff is a good thing.

Especially in the new world of NIL and revenue sharing which is creating more parity than ever before.

The perfect system would be if FBS were reorganized into 8 conferences and each conference got a spot and there were 8 at large.

That will never happen of course.

I think we will be in a new division with an equitable playoff system in the next few years so it doesn’t really matter long term.

I don’t see a world where the status quo stays as it is.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but there is almost a zero chance a G5 school will ever host a first round game. Top four get a bye but the 5th conference champion is just thrown in based on ranking and the committee will easily rank 2 loss sec and big10 teams ahead of an undefeated G5 team. So it’s go on the road to what will likely be a very harsh environment or take a bye while your opponent plays an extra game and then go to a neutral location that will very likely be a harsh environment.

Boise State is literally slotted as the #4 conference champion in the CFP rankings. They tried to rig it against us but it backfired. There is a very good chance they get the bye.

I like Dellenger. But this is not newsworthy. Not really.

It took 18 months?

For them to come to an obvious conclusion?

Actually thought it to be a pretty good overview of how the CFP got from 4 to 12 and then explaining the current craziness as the committee works to determine who the final dozen will be. I’m actually enjoying Yormark being the latest commish to get his panties all in a wad!

My money is on Yormark! :money_mouth_face:

Pollard is the Iowa State AD. Hart is SMU AD. And these are the grown ups? Geez!

Army #24 and Memphis #25.
