Program discontinued in 1961. Used to have a 30,000 seat stadium, which was demolished in 1971. Remember going to a soccer game there with my mother when she was in grad school at DU in the late '60s.

Montana has a pretty good program and I can see why the WAC would want to try and pick them up…I do remember the App State game (Armanti Edwards’ last game as QB, for now) when Montana held them to advance to play Villanova…

Now that’s surprising. The only thing the MWC gains out of that is a vacation trip every two years for its other member institutions. Houston was a much better option IMO.

Well they get a 9th conference game which works better for OOC scheduling out west where teams are “thinner” on the ground. They get a free 13th game every other year if they want it. Hawai’i is apparently going to pay for travel out there too. Not a bad deal for the MWC really.

The article says “travel subsidy” so whether that’s all or part, still a good deal.

Lots of common sense in use by both sides.
TCU will be located an average of 1,140 miles from the other football league members.
No team west of the Mississippi should be in the Big East. The MWC was going to be a better football conference than the Big East with its recent additions, and most coaches believe that there is a playoff of some sort coming within 5 years. Stay where you’re at and continue the success your having. Alienating the fan base to go to a conference with no driveable road games is not good. Cincy was undefeated last season and did not get a shot at the “championship game”, so why TCU thinks this is going to be better than their current situation is baffling.

The logical answer would be “relatively soon” but there is nothing even remotely logical about college sports.
It makes perfect sense. If they stayed in the MWC they would have to play Boise every year and would not get BCS money. If they move to the Big East they get an even easier conference and BCS money.
I think the the Big East has to split into a basketball and football conference in the near future. How can you justify a 17 team conference. It is so big that it is out of control. They need to find another couple of member to make it a 12 team football league, and make the rest of the teams split into another conference for basketball.

Practically nonexistent, IMO. Provided that Villanova remains FCS, and Dayton and Xavier join to make 10 teams… then you have a 10 team league with 2 FCS programs.
Really don’t understand that move. MWC had a real chance at making a big push to getting BCS classification with TCU. I know the AQ conference, but geographically, it’s a head scratcher.
