Even if you are from the NE do you give a flip about playing A10 schools? Probably not.
Speaking of the A-10, haven’t seen anything about whether they plan to replace UMass or not. Would actually benefit if another 2-3 schools also left.
I shall not go in circles on this topic with NWA, I shall not go in circles on this topis with NWA.
HAHA I wish we all had line of sight to what the end goals were here for the ones calling the shots (the biggest brands and their tv partners) and the tools by which they are measuring things.
One way things work out for us and another way I think we are totally screwed. I am hoping for one, but kinda expecting the other. I do think if the idea of taking reduced payouts to maintain affiliation becomes a things we are absolutely SOL. Then they can take 80 schools without paying out more than a school brings in and a school like duke wont mind sacrificing football revenue to keep their basketball aligned with power brands.
The only thing I am certain of - is this is all stupid and the top brands don’t give a crap about schools like us.
Honestly, if UofIowa keeps games and opponents mainly the same, I’ll still be engaged. Even if it ends up at a UFL/G-League level. My fandom runs too deep at this point.
Charlotte and SoDakSt. won’t be at that level, so I’ll still get to enjoy ‘amateur’ sports.
I’ve tried to start following teams in other leagues (MLS, EPL, etc.) as I have aged. However, they don’t have the same pull as my childhood fandoms. Thus, my thought that I will still follow a UFL Iowa Hawkeyes.
30 schools with 150m plus budgets. That’s probably a good break point of who is likely in. Add chapel hill and Oregon that’s the 32,.
Until Phil Knight dies, anyway.
Would think that like T. Boone Pickens is still funneling hundreds of millions to OK State athletics through his foundation, Knight will do the same for Oregon.
Im sure some financial support will continue but there is concern inside Oregon circles that once Phil dies much of the funding will move to academics causes. He’s been a big supporter for cancer research and actively supports universities besides Oregon when it comes to research - so while I am sure his resources will continue to support the school it’s certainly possible that both Nike support and athletics funding could decline without Phil’s presence.
One of the links you previously posted had NCSU, TCU, Illinois, Ole Miss, Minn, Purdue and Vandy with a higher valuation than UNC-CH.
Yeah - really curious how some of this is measured.
The B10 and SEC schools having a higher valuation makes sense I guess. State does not. TCU having made the CFP might be impacting them?
