There were 5 people in my session, 1 proJudy, 1 neutral and three anti. The meeting was basically just dialogue with consultant listening and making notes, asking questions here and there. We also talked general traits successful candidates at other schools have had.
Our topics were branding, charlotte market, nepotism, fund raising, social media and media in general, donor base, lack of vision and I specifically brought up the lack of chip on the shoulder we have had. A big thing was consultant saying there is no excuse for us not to succeed. Said facilities were very good (for those that think they arent). He said the money we are paying AD and coaches isn’t an issue with success. He did mention the difficulty in getting basketball turned around because the P5 leagues are playing more games which means fewer marquee OOC games for us. Said football is just a numbers game. He said with right hire didnt see why we can’t be much improved.
Overall I was pretty happy. He listened and asked the right questions. He said we would have the new AD in with plenty of time to hire a new basketball (if that is what we wanted). Absolutely would be here by 4/1.
The Pro-Judy guy made excuses for a lot of stuff, said he felt like it couldnt have more than 50 people that had been upset and then admitted he had no idea how social media works.
Biggest moment for me was when the consultant said that talking with alums like this was irregular and not standard procedure and that Phil specifically asked to do this. If Phil wanted a yes person, a pro chapel hill person and generally someone that we would hate then they wouldn’t have done this and they certainly would not have invited people that have been vocal. To me that is a great sign and kudos to Phil for doing this.
Thanks for the update Wupass. I really feel like Phil is trying to do this the right way, and wants us to get in a better position. Hopefully this firm will help us make the right hire, and we can enter some uncharted waters with city expansion, marketing, and winning.

NWA, that is awesome to hear! I’ve said it to many people but Dubois wants a homerun hire so he can focus on academics and the capital campaign. I am very confident that we will get someone who understands success in the revenue sports and can connect with the students, alumni and fans.
