Corpse Flower at McMillan Greenhouse

At first, I thought it was mildly interesting, but after reading the whole article, I find it fascinating. And, I have made the decision to go see (and smell) this thing when it blooms. I think it would be neat (and funny) to take some people along… check out their reactions.

This “titan arum” is supposed to bloom in three weeks… first one ever in North Carolina according to the article.

That is a flower? Quite interesting. Our greenhouse and gardens are pretty cool. Suggest stopping by at least once.

Umm… might be kinda neat to get out of your car 2 blocks away from the flower’s location and to walk and sniff repeatedly to see when you can first notice its potent smell. Also, sniff and see how close you must be to start yakking. I heard if you can get right up to the flower and take a big wiff and not vomit, they give you a t-shirt.

he is talking about the movie that was mad elike 10 years ago. they had a flower that bloomed once every 20 years or soemthing, and dennis killed it with a sling shot i think

Oh, ok… haven’t seen that. But, I LOVE those old t.v. episodes… watched them on Nickelodeon.

Put legs on this plant and we’ll have a backup for Big Phil. The plant grew 5 inches TODAY!

Bump, it should bloom tomorrow or Sunday. It’s much larger than when I saw it last Saturday.

I plan to check it out Sunday. Should be interesting… At least I can say that I’ve seen one… or smelled one… I’m curious.

[B]THE BLESSED EVENT HAS HAPPENED! Bella opened at 5 am Sunday morning.

Sunday visitation - 8 am-8 pm
Monday visitation - 9 am - 8 pm, she will NOT STINK then
Tuesday visitation - 9 am - 8 pm

She’ll bloom for 4 days.[/B]

The Flower was pretty cool. It did have that smell but it wasn’t that over bearing where I wanted to vomit or cry?
