CUSA Expansion Discussion
clt says sign him up for that conference. we could win it every year and be dancing.
Where have I heard that sentiment before? Oh, that’s right, once we’re in the A-10, we’re going to ā€œownā€ it in men’s basketball! ::slight_smile:

No offense, 49rfootballnow, but you are clearly a one issue voter. Many of us who support our move to add football also enjoy basketball more than football and in no way shape or form would want to move into that conference. I’d rather take the southern conference for basketball than play in that monstrosity.

I love our basketball program as well, but what I’m stating are hard facts, not opinions.

Does anyone doubt that our goal is FBS football, no one even puts out 40,000 seat stadium rendering if thats not the plan?
Does anyone doubt that CUSA will still be the best FBS option for us outside of the BCS conferences?
Does anyone doubt that the FBS conference we’ll play in will not require us to be full members?
Does anyone doubt that we’ll have to play in a non BCS conference before a BCS conference wants us?
Does anyone doubt that the most expensive sport we play will determine our conference affiliations?

If you answered YES to any of these questions you need to take your basketball blinders off and put the bong down. Many of you think only in basketball terms, its those of you who are one issue voters. While we’re FCS we will have some latitude to keep our other sports in the A10, but once we move to FBS we will be leaving the A10 behind us and I’d still take CUSA over the Sun Belt any day. Judy is all about protecting basketball but that may require a move to a slightly lesser conference. Our basketball program isn’t some holy temple that needs constant protection.

We are an average basketball program in a decent basketball conference, that’s reality.
Football costs more than basketball and decisions will be made with football priorities first, basketball second; that’s reality.
We will have to play in a lesser basketball FBS league first to get into a BCS conference, that’s reality.

Time to wake up guys, our basketball centric world is changing. Have you learned nothing from 2003. The Big East is about to get a55raped again because they put basketball first again. Basketball first is NOT a good long range plan for UNC Charlotte athletics and even Judy knows this.

Considering the rumors of Temple going to CUSA, what about us going back there?

Also, now with conferences more interested in regional affiliation because of the economy what will that mean for us? It’s so hard to have a conference that is legit while keeping teams close.

Was playing around with the thoughts of a revamped CUSA…

ECU
Charlotte
UMASS(if they would go FBS)
Temple
Marshall
Memphis

Southern Miss
UAB
Tulane
Louisiana Tech
FIU
UCF

Football would be legit.
Basketball would be similar to A-10, maybe a slight step down.
Baseball would be legit.
Soccer would probably be about the same as A-10.

I hate the idea of CUSA for basketball.

And I really dont like it that much for football either.

Those rumors died pretty fast and if there were any truth in them, it would be for football only. FWIW, I don’t know that C-USA for Temple football is any better than the current arrangement the Owls have with the MAC.

I think the important issue is how this will effect Track and XC… :stuck_out_tongue:

Temple and ECU would be the only competition, but they better put an indoor track in our football field house b/c none of those schools have a facility to host Conference… ;D

If they could lure Xavier and Dayton as BB schools, along with us and Temple, then CUSA basketball is virtually as good as it ever was before. Would X and D be tempted if us and Temple went all sports to go with?

Temple’s contract with the MAC expires in 2011. Not sure if it’s before or after the 2011 season, but either way they have some anxiety about it being renewed. The MAC isn’t happy about the 13 member schedule.
