DeCourcy on "mid-major" label

Makes some interesting points and includes insight from Jay Bilas as well.

FOXSports.com: Some leagues are in major limbo

I’m having Sun Belt flash backs…YIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!! :scared:

There won’t be any Sun Belt flashbacks in 05-06 in the A-10. I agree with Joe Lunardi that at least 4 teams will be dancing come March.

Charlotte, Dayton, GW, UMass, Saint Joe’s, Temple, and Xavier should all be contending for the title, with Fordham and Rhode Island the darkhorses. In fact, I see only Bona and Duquesne as non-factors. LaSalle and Richmond will pull a few surprises along the way.

Still, I understand the gist of DeCourcy’s piece and the A-10 needs to make sure that 04-05 – not 03-04 – was an abberation.

Only 4 months until practice starts!!!

The move to the A-10 is going to stink… our attendance for basketball games will decrease… our level of recruiting will decrease. I have said it before and I will say it again… lack of football or even the threat of football will be the nail in the coffin for all our sports. Regardless of what the A-10 does next year… looking at the big picture the move is bad… really really bad. We should be going to the Big East.

to be an optimist…

look at it this way, we’ll be contending for the league title in a not-too-shabby A-10 vs. being lost-in-the-shuffle-somewhere-above-average in the oversized glitzy Big East.

Regardless of the conference...if we win and are ranked, we will draw good crowds (see last 3 home games, "sell-outs" when ranked last season) and add new fans. Being ranked is what it's all about as far as fan interest goes. Then beat some big name teams, ie Wake, Indiana, Miss St, NC State and then advance in the tournament. All of those things can happen in the A-10. I really don't see any drop-off at all...as long as we continue to win and build on our OOC schedule.

The class of 2006 is key as far as the next 5 years goes. And we’re on some great players. Now we just have to land them and Mike B to show up for 2 years.
