DeCourcy on Withers

PF Curtis Withers' success with the U.S. U-21 team offered a glimpse of what he could be for Charlotte in its first Atlantic 10 season. Withers played mostly center, and he is best near the goal. With SG Brendan Plavich gone, the 49ers should be attempting fewer 30-foot 3-pointers and putting more of their misses in Withers' rebounding range.

Even Mike Decoucey gets it.

According to the Miami Herald today the Heat are signing Plavich to a 3 year guaranteed contract and they are throwing in a mansion on South Beach.

Plavich is a loser like Ron.

Look who is talking Dewey. You spent your whole sorry career for the niner baseball team riding the pine for four years and serving up hot dogs in the concession stand at Tom & Lib Phillips field.

they are called Dewy Dog’s. Loser

I think Decourcey was the one who said something about it last year. Run, is that right? Wasn’t it Decourcey who wrote that article after the game @ Cinci last year saying that Withers needed to be used more?

Yes, Ron Johnson is a loser.

Tom Crean said it after the Marquette game. Said he thought Withers was being used on the perimeter too much and needed the ball down low.

Mysteriously, Lutz started getting him more low post looks the very next game and Withers’ game took off from that point in the season.

Is it better to play him at center ?

He is the epitome of a pf, but I wouldnt mind seeing a lineup of Withers, Drayton, Alexander, Bennett and Baldwin.

It will be interesting to see what Bobby does with Curt this year…

That is the line-up we will probably see, with Goldwire starting at the 2.

goldwire vs bennett is going to be an interesting battle for minutes at the two. i doubt either of them will see much time at the point, if any, with Mitchell being the senior and jerrell much more capable at the positon.

Something tells me Lee might be the 6th man this year. Bennett is really solid and is a more multi-dimensional player. I like seeing Curt make some sets from the top of the key, but I don’t like seeing him their every play. However when he is at the top of the key he forces the opposing 4 to step out and play on the perimeter freeing up the paint for some cuts and alleys. Unfortunately we don’t run a ton of motion for layups, just 3 pointers. Maybe with DA that will change some.

I remember that, but Decourcy (or was it Doyle??) wrote something after the butt kicking we took @ Cinci and even said he asked Lutz about not using Withers more and Lutz didn’t have an answer for him.

@ Cinci was the game right before @Marquette. (Crean was dead on, however).

Found it. link. It was Doyle (not DeCourcy). Written the day after the Cinci game.

Where’s x-niner in this thread, complaining about how the writers drool over Withers but complain about Plavich?

Withers will be double and triple teamed all season unless we can consistently make threes to keep them honest. Goldwire and EJ will have to continue to shoot well from behind the arc. Wouldn’t hurt if Mitch became a threat from out there too.

i hope you mean Mullis and not Baldwin. Mitchell Baldwin is a hell of a player, freakishly athletic, and plays with heart, but he will never be a three point threat.

I'll just be happy if the shoulder stays healthy.
