I don’t harbor any ill feelings towards Dickie V…but he is obviously not the most objective commentator. Dickie V will probably go down as the most well known bball broadcaster of all time…not because of his knowledge but because he is an entertainer.
I really don’t think Vitale knows much about this Charlotte team. He’s probably covered several Louisville teams and that’s where he’s pumped about Garcia. When he mentioned Withers and not Basden this was obvious.

I think Digger is worse than Vitale. Vitale is just stupid, but Digger acts like he gets mad any time someone says anything good about us.

I can promise you that will do no good.
Here’s the problem with Dickie V, in my opinion:
- He takes a stand on a player (i.e. Garcia is the CUSA POY)
- He then finds some way to validate that stand regardless of what is happening in the game.
In Memphis/Louisville, Garcia picked up 3 fouls in 10 minutes and sat out the rest of the half after doing nothing. He was ineffective after he checked back in during the second half. He picks up his 4th foul and goes to the bench, which is when Louisville made their run (as mentioned earlier).
Then with Louisville up 4 and about 35-40 seconds left in the game, Garcia goes 2 on 1 against a fast break (when he should probably back it out and get fouled) and gets the bucket and the foul. This is when Dickie V explodes about what a great player he is and how he is “hands down the CUSA POY”. He said big players make big plays like that even when they are not having a great day. He uses this one bucket as an excuse to lecture us.
- This is the only play Garcia has made all game.
- The win was already secured.
- If you watched this game, it is clear that Garcia had one of his worst performances of the year in one of the biggest games.
The fact the DV didn’t mention Eddie as his also rans for POY is horrible.
I think he only follows teams when he does their games. In this case, Withers is the best player for Charlotte because he was the star when DV called our game last year.
Horrible stuff from DV last night…
I keep looking at something if find amazing.
Eddie averages only 1.8 fouls/game??? That’s ridiculous considering he gets over 3 steals and 8 rebounds a game. The man plays perfect defensive basketball.
Thursday…If we win, and Eddie has the stats it’s his…alot on this game!!!
As if you needed another reason to hate Dickie V. - Dick’s fearless shooters. He lists Reddick, McNamara and Stoudamire. That’s it. I don’t think it’s reaching here to think that the person leading the nation in 3’s a game, the same person that hit a last second half court shot @ Indiana, the same person who hit 10 3’s in a game last year AGAINST McNamara should at least get a freaking mention.
I used to think Dickie V was an idiot but I appreciated his passion for the game. Now I just think he’s and idiot.

I heard that too, I thought it was BP, but Louisville has played more games than we have, so Dean’s total may be more.
