Dick Vitale on Sportscenter Last Night

Was asked who his biggest disappointments of the season have been. His response:

1-Charlotte
2-Alabama
3-Stanford

No way we are a bigger disappointment than Stanford. Stanford was preseason #13 and we didn’t even make the polls.

Plus, Curt has had mono, EJ has been out, Jamison had a dislocated shoulder, Williams had some injuries, DA got injured out in Wyoming, and Bennett had a thumb injury he only just now got to remove the cast for.

If anything, our stock can start rising now, Stanford hasn’t had half the personal misfortune we have had and has sucked it up way worse.

Duke Vitale sucks. His opinion is worhtless as tits on a bull.

He does suck, but he’s right on the money on us.

I think Vitale is great and we are a dissapointment this year. Maybe not top 3 but a letdown anyway. There is still a lot of ball to be played.

Vitale or Stanford does not concern me. Charlotte is my biggest dissapointment.

i look at this from a positive perspective. at least this means that he expected us to be good. what would be worse is if we were 6-5 and thats what people expected. it shows that our program is farther along than we think.

Yes, people expected us to be awesome. Our name is definitely out there. I've been looking at Wake Forest's stats - so far they've been barely beating really crappy teams. I mean, we could do that too - play Mars Hill and Brevard to give our wins a bigger number (sarcasm). I think beating Wake Forest will get us back into the media if we play them like we played Rutgers the other night. And we WILL beat them if Wake Forest continues to suck.

His name speaks for himself- DICK

I was thinking the same thing.

If Clemson was 6-5 (& maybe they are), I doubt anyone would expect Vitale to say they were one of his most disappointing teams. The same goes for USC, UVA, and many others.

Clemson lost their first game of the season last night. They’re 11-1.

Mayhaps the silver lining here is bad pub is better than no pub? The media (outside of the O) has been high on the Niners-> Niners will right the ship

The only thing “biggest disappointment” means is that the pundits have high expectations for us. I have absolutely zero problem with that. In fact, I think it’s right where we wanna be. It may sting a little, but it’s a sign of how far we’ve come in public perception.

Unfortunately, we have to rehabilitate that image some after the lame start. If nothing else, I’d like to see us finish this year strong to restore confidence in our program. Watch the talking heads suddenly switch gears and become proponents again.

I agree 100%. That’s why I compared our program to others in the area that experts would not consider an identical record “disappointing”.

NinerFan, I also agree with you that in this situation bad pub (if you can call it that) is better than no pub.

RPI 53 (too high), SOS 210… 6-0 home, 3-1 road, 2-0 neutral
Wofford had a 3-pointer roll off the rim at the buzzer in their game at Littlejohn.

84-55, #155 Bethune-Cookman, Clemson, SC
102-71, #193 Coppin State, Clemson, SC
79-38, #212 South Carolina State, Clemson, SC
68-56, at #186 Charleston Southern, Charleston, SC
96-88, at #134 Penn State, State College, PA
82-63, #55 South Carolina, Clemson, SC
62-60, #293 Wofford, Clemson, SC
80-72, #280 East Tennessee State, Clemson, SC
101-60, at N/R Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, San Juan, PR
71-48, vs #153 Holy Cross, San Juan, PR
66-59, vs #105 Akron, San Juan, PR
69-72, at #74 Georgia, Athens, GA

I’ll take high expectations. That’s a good sign.
The kids watching want to go where greatness is expected. A 13-year-old impressionable kid might think Charlotte is supposed to be good, but had a down year, so maybe my 6’8" self will go there in 5 years. Who doesn’t want a 6’8" 13-year-old?
Clemson is disappointing. 11-1, but the only games that are real are USC & UGA. I say they’re 1-1.

i just hope that kid doesn’t check into niner nation! he’d never give us a second glance after reading some of this stuff!

I am not some sort of Wake Forest loyalist but they have played some good competition and won. They have beaten Texas Tech and Wisconsin. They lost to Depaul at home by 3 and lost a tough one to Florida. We can beat Wake at Winston-Salem but they aren’t dog $hit that we can just walk through. I could careless about that game. Let’s beat UNC-A first.

Great point. We have the potential to win every remaining game but we have to approach these games one at a time.
