Like I said before, Lutz is going nowhere and a tarheel will never lead our team.
My 3 year old could recruit at Carolina. Send a letter to the top 20 recruits in the nation and they sign the dotted line. :o :o I would love to see Lutz with that kind of talent. Doherty lost with the same talent on the floor now. Same kids, same attitude.

It amazes me how alot of people on here have abandoned Lutz..I could have asked any of you 6 weeks ago about a new coach and you would have said HELL NO..our coach rocks and is doing great with what he has ....now he's gotta go...that's nuts....There is more to this than the coach..The allstars on the team haven't exactly been playing like earlier in the year too...
I also believed at that point that the coach wouldnât write off games against South Florida and would have the team ready to play after losing 2 straight. I am a huge Lutz fan but I believe that a team has to improve and I believe that Lutz may have done all he can for this school. He still has a chance to suprise me in the NCAAâs and believe me I want to be proven wrong. I want Lutz to suceed and win two in the NCAAâs and get this team to the sweet 16. I love having Lutz here but I love seeing us win more no matter who is coaching.
Some of you act as though itâs so simple to make the NCAAâs every year. Lutzâs teams always perform at a high level, thatâs why weâre always in. The ex-Carolina coach has proved nothing except that he seems emotionally unable to coach a college basketball team. Freezing out players and drastic mood swings? If Matt comes, fans will be calling for his head in about two yearâs time.
Lutz is a good (close to being great) coach, albeit one who has struggled with this particular group of players. I love Eddie, Curt, et al, but I really donât know if this collection of players has the mental fortitude to excel in tough games.
Define high level. Considering he never wins in the tournament I donât see how we perform at a âhighâ level. The only thing âhighâ about this team is some of our guys after a puff or two.

Matt over Bobby? No thanks.

Is that enough for you to be satisfied? Is it enough to just make the NCAAâs? I believe Bobby could coach here for another 20 years and in 15 of those we would be in the NCAAâs if not more. Of those 15 I am curious how many games we would actually win in the NCAAâs. I love making it to the NCAAâs as does everyone. I think some here are simply wondering if Bobby can take us to the level where we make an impact when we get in the NCAAâs.

2nd best team in history of Conference USA. Two CUSA tournament titles during his tenure. Only missed the NCAA's twice.
Who would you rather be? Cincy is the only team in CUSA that has been consistently better than us, and they donât make deep NCAA runs. Barring Marquetteâs final four run, nobody in CUSA has done that well. During Lutzâs tenure (and the end of Watkinâs too) we have progressed from a good team that sometimes made the tourney to a team thatâs in year in and year out. Weâre one of the top forty programs in the nation.
A lot of people act as though getting rid of Lutz will automatically turn us into a perennial top twenty-five team. I think the opposite is more likely, that weâll fall back into the ranks of a UAB or St. Louis.

It Lutz can't win one game in this year NCAA's I might be hoping for Matt to get here.

I disagree because Bobby has improved the basketball program to a point of making the NCAA"s year in and year out. He has made this a good coaching job. I don't think there is much chance of him leaving because of the contract issues that Pi has pointed out. I believe, as I have said 5,000 times now, that you can be a fan of Lutz and also believe that maybe he has done all he can here.
Icanbring it is 100% right. Be careful what you wish for. Lutz isnt the best coach in the USA or even the conference, but he is a good coach and a good fit for the program. Which program in CUSA or the A10 would you want to trade places with? There are very few. He hasnt blown our name up to the national stages yet, but he has done a very good job, and I dont think anyone else we are mentioning could do as good a job here as Lutz can.

You wanna put Lutz in the ACC and see how he does?
You wonder how he would do at Carolina? He would be sent crying back to Harrisburg faster than they got rid of Doherty.
Doherty went to Carolina with name recognition. He was an Alumni who was apart of the schoolâs National Championship team. He just had a successful term at Notre Dame. Name recognition gets you recruits. Matt Doherty had that. No one knows who Bobby Lutz is! He doesnt have half the resume that Matt Doherty currently has. These recuits could play anywhere in the country. Why would they risk thier future to play for an unknown coach?
Lutz doesnt have the discipline to coach All Americans. All Americans are SUPER STARS. Martinâs ego is nothing compared to any of the players on a Carolina team. Throw Bobbys Greenlight style of play into that bunch and the team would crumble. And imagine the off the court conflicts⌠All American player are under a much bigger spotlight and a greater number of paths to trouble and University scandal.
Bobby said he was out coached by Ashevilleâs Biedenbach. Give him to Gary Williams or Krzyzewski and he would be eaten alive. Lutz would lead the league in technicals. The Alumni at the ACC schools are very very powerful. They have very deep pockets and would not ever accept a loss to a team like Rutgers or ECU or South Florida. The pressure would be much to massive for Bobby to handle.
Bobby has a perfect place for him here at Charlotte. He has a mid major Athletic Director, who is so out of touch with reality that she thinks she is doing a good job, and an miniscule fan base without the financial support to have any sort of decision making power. Bobby is hard headed but I dont believe he is crazy enough to leave Charlotte. I hope he takes the gamble because it is time for this University to take a gamble and bring in another coach, one with a better resume.

Yeah, and Judy will have an even harder time without the contributions of 60 or so Foundation members that just spent the weekend in Memphis.
Collectively we would say⌠âNO to DOH!!!â
Bringing in Doherty would jumpstart local and national media attention. The 60 of foundation members we lose will be replaced in the first year by several hundred curious new fans ready to pick up your pathetic $49 a year contribution. And Doherty will win back the majority of your support when we go to the second weekend of the Big Dance.
Matt Doherty knows more people associated with the highest level of basketball than the total number of people Judy Rose knows at this school.
only way lutz leaves, is on his own. we canât and wonât fire him, unless God forbid, there is a scandal. Also, canât deny the results lutz has had, with what he has to work with. It is often said, âhe does more, with less than any coach in America"âŚthat said, when a change does come about, whether now or in 2009 it wouldnât bother me if we did take a chance with a known name like Doherty. There are proâs and cons to Dohâ as coach, the cons are worrisome but I believe in second chances and heâs had time to reflect on his bad moves.
my first post on this boardâŚabout a month agoâŚwas a question to niner fans about what current rumors were floating around regarding Doherty coaching in Charlotte if Lutz went to NC State. Many of you tried to run me off this board and called me âstate boyâ and said Doherty sucksâŚ
so to read that you now want Doherty? Make up your friggin minds.
Lefty,
You are so full of it itâs not funnyâŚback Lutz all you want, but you point out any other team in the land thatâs as undisciplined as ours and Iâll kiss your ass.
