Makes some sense, for all involved.
I think Doyel is my least favorite bball writer. I never put to much stock in anything he writes.
Is it time to start the Nolan Richardson era?
I often wonder if he doesn’t just make up stuff. It sure seems like it.
Well if that happens, JK called it. Might not be such a bad thing. If Bobby does interview for another job, I really hope he gets it. If he interviews somewhere else and gets passed over again, it will really make it seem like he is desperate to leave Charlotte… he will lose a lot of the fan support he has left and it certainly wouldn’t be good for recruiting.
is virginia really considering odom? I haven’t heard much at all about the virginia job.
I just don’t think Odom will become coach at UVA.
I really wonder why UVA would want Odom. As someone who grew up in Winston-Salem, outside of recruting Tim Duncan, after Duncan left in 1997, he only made it to one other NCAA in his final year there in 2001. He is a above average defensive coach but a mediocre recruiter and his offense will put you to sleep with it’s consistant half court sets. I don’t see UVA going after Odom.

But before Duncan, he also recruited Rodney Rogers, Randolph Childress, & a host of other good players and was a regular in the NCAA. Wake made it to the regionals played in Charlotte in '93.
My point is that I believe his coaching peaked in 1997. Since then he has yet to lead any team out of the first round of the NCAA"s and has only been to the NCAA’s twice. He isn’t a young coach, he’s 63 and I am not sure how many more years you can get out of someone like that. My final point is that I don’t see UVA taking him.

Also, he and UVA did not part ways under the best of circumstances when he was an assistant there. That’s why I think Doyel is just making the whole thing up.
Let’s get this over with- If Lutz wants another job, get the hell out of here. If not, say you want to stay and continue to build the program like you have for the last 5 years.
I think Odom is a good choice for Va. I don’t think you will get a top tier guy to go there right now and I don’t think they need to go the route of a top young gun. They need stability and Odom isn’t sexy…but he wins. If you think UVA is going to compete for the national title you need to put down that crack pipe.
It just depends on what you want to win. He can get a team like UVA to the NIT consistantly and the NCAA’s every two years or so. He has actually done a good job at USC overall and if he got the right recruits I could see USC making a sweet 16 appearence in a few years. He does have a thing for new buildings. When he came to Wake they just started the Joel. At USC they just opened the Colinial Center a few years back. I believe UVA will open a arena. But if you’re looking for someone to get you to compete well in the ACC consistantly, I am not sure he is the guy for UVA.
I could actually see Lutz’s name come up for the UVA job though due the 4 game skid here I don’t know how much chance he will have.

He listens to other offers to keep his options open in case he ever needs them. That's all. It's entirely rational. People are just going off the deep end with him being courted by other schools. Relax....
If the South Carolina job comes open, he should reject it on the same grounds as the TN job. Don’t ever take a job where the best you can expect to be is “2nd or 3rd bananna.”

The only problem with your comment on the Tenn job is that Lutz was the first man in and the last man out. It does not look like he didn’t want the job.He rode it to the bitter end.

Coach said, " I never said I would take the job if offered." Recall that he went on record as having some major “differences of opinion” on the way Mens basketball was run there.
Considering that there was an agency in charge of the new BB coach search, it would have looked pretty sad if all the candidates but Pearl withdrew their name from consideration before an announcemnt. Recall that Bobby said he would give them an answer on Thursday. It was Saturday/Sunday when the new coach was announced. My bet is that the whole drama was scripted by the agency.

Problem with this is that it is not the same as the UT job. Same perks as far as salary and conf. but this time he has no impact to his family cause he doesn’t have to move. He can leave his kids in the same school and commute the hour and a half to USC. Big diference.
There was no guarantee that Bobby would have taken the TN job. He would have still had a very difficult decision to make.
JK is right. He will not have to be that far from his family if he were to take the job at USC.
He wanted the job.
