ECU Postgame

Well then I’ll take comfort in our program at least being headed in the right direction. We were 10-21 last year with the exact same players. We are 6-2 so far this year and Lebo is recruiting and landing better players for the future. The Missiouri transfer that’s sitting out this year is already the best player on the team according to those that watch practice. We are also building a $15 million dollar practice facility and are paying Lebo 3 times what we paid our last coach, so we are certainly a lot more commited than ever before. If we are better than you I don’t see that changing for a while because the program as a whole is improving a lot right now.

Can someone explain why Jim Utter suddenly jumped into the shoutbox last night as soon as we fell behind and started making abnoxious commentss aimed at our team and our fans? He was nowhere to be found the first half of the game when we were winning or during the beginning of the second half but as soon as we fell behind he came from nowhere with his cheap shots. He immediately posted the score as soon as ECU took the lead and never let up until we took the lead again. Then he disappeared until ECU pulled out the win and then he would not shut up. Not only was he unprofessional, but he obviously knows almost nothing about basketball.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds like you are not defending his actions.

We should have won that game. I think we would have if we had Spears to come off the bench and help relieve our starters. I thought we played as good as we have all year in the first half, even without Spears on the court.

I would never defend someone who spews so much venom toward our school or fanbase.

Got 2 things to say…1)I previously had defended Utter, thought people were just sore about us sucking and laying it on him,but after being in the shoutbox after the game…they were right…he is a troll who was looking to just antagonize our players.

2)For the life of me I just can’t buy the "our players get gassed playing 25-30 minutes of a game.I’ve watched almost every game this year and we’ve got guys playing 30+ minutes who are not gassed…and we’ve got Phil who gets tired and starts slowly chugging back up court after 6=7 minutes.I’m not saying Phil isn’t playing well…I’m just saying he has IN MY OPINION,never really been in good shape to play D-1 College Basketball.

Charlotte reject Shamarr Bowden? A no star Paris-Campbell Roberts? A no star Paul Stone that didn’t have any schools listed as recruiting him except ECU? (also only a 1 star with a 75 grade on ESPN)

I’m telling you now that Shamarr Bowden sucks. Dude will light it up 1 out of every 5 or 6 games, but will play no defense, will turn the ball over, and will make everyone else on your team worse by taking possessions and better shots away from them. He’s also a fucking headcase. If you’re taking our trash, then your program has serious problems.

Bowden may be a better player than Green, but Green is definitely a better person.

Disagree - Derrio is actually coachable and puts forth some effort on defense. Bowden is not coachable and doesn’t know what defense even is.

Meh. They’re both bad. Bowden looked like he had more potential if he’d listen to a coach.

I agree with this… Derrio is way better for the team psyche.

Plus, Derrio can play the 1 some, albeit a little suspect at times. If we had to depend on Bowden to play the 1 this year we’d be in even deeper doodoo.

Derrio has lost/turnovered the ball when no one is guarding him multiple times this year.

you may not like the quality of the bench players but it still doesn’t explain why we have tired players.

According to the box, we didn’t have a guy play over 33 minutes. Is 33 minutes asking too much at this point of the season?
Good question. We had 3 players go over 30 min, and each one was playing less than their average # minutes. ECU had 5 players go over 30 minutes. Our 2 big guys went 25 and 28 minutes. I am not saying our guys weren’t fatigued, but they didn’t have to learn Major’s system to be in shape to play 2/3 of a basketball game by December.
I noticed the same stat for players playing over 30 min. ECU had 4, not 5. But it is still a valid argument none the less.

I did say ā€œsuspect at timesā€. Bowden can’t play the 1 at all, IMO. Think Ian Andersen.

Recruiting and landing who that is better?

Charlotte reject Shamarr Bowden?

A lot of good schools still wanted him. The interviews not up anymore on the draftreview.com but Bowden said he had offers from several Big East and SEC schools this fall before picking us. Miguel Paul also had a lot of of BCS offers even when he transfered from Missiouri last spring and was a solid contributor as a freshman on an Elite 8 team. We have an all conference PG and the people who have seen Paul at practice say he’s already better. Both these guys Lebo brought in saw the court as freshman and are now older and more ready, and since we lose our backcourt this year and need players like this ready to step in. I think he’s done a good job.

Of the other players he’s signed so far Ralph Sampson’s son had offers from Seton Hall and St. Mary’s and he’s going to be a good one when he gaines a some weight. Torlack looks good too and was a solid contributor on the Serbian National team that won the European Championships. I like the upside ive seen from both so far this season.

You mentioned ESPN and Roberts Campbell was graded higher than Terrance Williams when they both commited and as far as Stone, I guess Lebo saw something he liked to have offered him this early. He’s didn’t have any offers but hes a 6-6 guard and must be worth a chance to sign him in the fall.

"Stone said Virginia Commonwealth, UNC-Wilmington, Florida State, Georgetown and Wake Forest expressed interest in him attending their universities, but none of those schools made the offer or attempt to recruit him like East Carolina did. "I went to one of the football games and the people just welcomed me with open arms and I just loved it,ā€

Of course Shamarr is going to say he had BCS offers after he left here, but using a little common sense will tell you he didn’t.

Paris Roberts Campbell is rated as an 84 on ESPN, T Will is rated higher. He should still be a pretty good player for you guys.

As for Miguel Paul…

We’ll either way rivals listed UTEP as offering and reported a visit date so I’m sure that’s true. Tim Floyd recruits pretty good players (legally or illegally) and UTEP won our conference and was in the top 25 last year. It was a nice pickup.

I don't like that site anyway but about two weeks ago he was graded 88 and a top 15 player in NC by them and Williams was an 87. He's from CLT. From what I've heard is he played with some really good players last year at United Faith I think and could be a little under the radar because he wasn't the focus of that offense. Glad we got him when we did.

If that’s the worst thing he’s ever done all’s good.
I posted earlier in another thread and there wasn’t very much response about conditioning.

I don’t think this team is in good Physical condition to start the season. When I posted earlier, I was
including Spears in that conversation. The only guy that looked in good shape to me at the begining
was KJ. Did the other guys even work-out off -season?

Remember the days of Kelvin Price, even Plavich drastically changed for his senior season.
Maybe there was not an established program with oversight during the off-season but there
is not an excuse for being out-of-shape.
Thank you.

Bowden did have the off the bench center court stretching warm-up down to a science. Through his tats and no expression face… he’s on his way to being too cool for school.

he just might be too cool for basketball.
