FAU pregame

~crickets~ Looks like no one gives a rat’s ass. Who can blame us? We’re shellshocked-shit-on. Sad.

Opening Line: Charlotte -6

It’s a chance to see if we can get this taste out of our mouth. I just want them out of the funk and playing well again. We know they can do it, but will they?

Should be 30 pt win. Niners win by 12.
222 rpi team at home…

Will be interesting to see if and when any turnaround in the season occurs. FAU is not very good it seems, though they’re at least good enough to pull off the upset of Harvard at home. Players probably can’t sleepwalk through this one and still win (as evidenced by the Rice loss).

I’m not sure what kind of hope remains for a top 4 finish in the conference. Would have to win most of the games from here on out to pull it off. And would need to show some of the promise the team showed earlier in the year. I have no idea what to expect at this point. I hope they can turn things around, a complete collapse would be an even bigger disaster for this program.

Agree.

Why even lend them a thread of credit? They are brutal. 7-13. 250 rpi on statsheet.com

It’s like you are already doing the “avg fan doesn’t know how good fau is”

Mike Thorne Jr. three-pointer at the buzzer.

Charlotte - 52
FAU - 49

In all seriousness, this team has made me apathetic. It’s baseball season.

We get back on track tonight win by 20. It would be nice to get 3 wins before playing USM but who knows anymore.

Don’t forget it’s beach night! Hop on the bus to the shore!

Everyone wear your bikinis!!!

At what point during this year has this team done what they were expected to do?

Interesting tidbit: This will be the 3rd 49ers coach that Jarvis has coached against. We played GW/ Boston U several times under Mullins and we played them under Watkins. He left GW before we went to that conference we used to be in.

That shows opening line was Charlotte -8 and it has since moved to Charlotte -6.5.

Pretty embarrassing that we’re favored by so little against a 7-13 team at home. We’re 1-4 against the spread in our last 5 though.

This is exactly the kind of thinking that got us in trouble. It was obvious the team thought they could just sleepwalk and beat UTSA, Rice, etc.

I have watched FAU play large parts of about 6 games this year. They do NOT suck. They have some significant flaws that should be familiar to 49er fans, and it leads to them losing games that they often have leads in.

They attempt to hide defensive weaknesses by playing a lot of 2-3 zone. In the games I have watched, they have lacked a post presence on both ends of the floor. I am hoping this combination allows us to dominate the boards, because as awful as we have been playing, we need every advantage we can get.

Their offense is based around Pablo Bertone, a 6’4 Sr G who averages 18.1 ppg and is one of the very best offensive players in CUSA. He very much makes me think Manu Ginobli junior. He can get his own shot anywhere on the court, though he loves to attack the basket on the drive. He is deceptively quick.explosive, has wonderful court vision, and a real head for the game. He is the kind of player that gives undisciplined teams without a lock down defender fits. He dropped 30 and 31 on UCF and Depaul, and I bet he does it to us too.

A typical FAU game starts with Bertone going off on the other team for upwards of late into the 2nd half, when the other team finally realizes that this guy can play and we’d better do something about him. FAU has had a lot of halftime leads that they have lost once the other team adjusted, because the remainder of FAU’s team are primarily role players. However Jackson Trapp is their 3pt ace (37%, sometimes a volume shooter - eg 15 FGA vs ECU) and he can smoke you if you forget about him when guarding Bertone. Trapp is a guy who builds his confidence with makes and will then extend his range, so you want to keep harassing him all game and try to make him catch the ball going away from the basket, as he is not particularly adept at creating his shot (he prefers to come off screens).

That said if we can keep these two guys in check and dominate the boards, we can win this game. I agree that we should beat a team like this - like so many other teams have. However, this team has to show they can and will play good basketball again, before I start being optimistic.

1-4 vs. the spread! I need to move to Vegas with 80% odds against.

I get that we are a bad team and shouldn’t overlook anyone, but are you seriously arguing a 7-13 team does not suck? Come on, dog.

They are just good enough to keep it close against good teams. If we play like we have been playing, Bertone and his buddies will roll us, hard.

Here is an awesome cliche i used as athlete, business, life (shocked Major hasnt strummed it yet)

“Fear no competitor, respect them all”

As for NA, his speech is good for the locker room, u dont want players thinkin blowout game, but folllwers of uncc should keep the bar high and keep FAU in bottom feeder category. 253 rpi.
