We probably need $50-100M in fundraising for Athletics.

On ECU Stadium expansion:
Director of Athletics Jeff Compher told board members the university is going ”full speed ahead” with plans to renovate the south side of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium following the 2017 football season. The upgrade will primarily mean a redesigned system of seating that will allow fans opportunities for many different views and game experiences, but also a new press box on that side of the stadium.“To date we have, either through signed agreements or pledges ($6.4 million) raised, and we’ve done that in about 40 days,” Compher said, adding that a large share of the planned premium seating packages has already been sold. ”We had a big commitment yesterday that is not in this number that we feel very good about and have several verbal commitments that we’re working on right now in order to get the project going.”
The goal is to reach $10 million in donated money by the end of the summer.
$55 million project
Suites are $40,000 per year with 3, 6 or 9 year commitments.
Club seating is $2,500 per seat per year with 3, 6 and 9 year commitments.
Plans are supposed to be released at the Spring Game this weekend.

Meanwhile in our Athletic Dept and Marketing, crickets chirp. Anybody know what’s on the horizon for our stadium expansion, stadium suites, Halton upgrades? Halton is way overdue and with Mark Price at the helm, now is the time for significant upgrades. Murals on the giant blank white walls. Close off the giant open corner in the lower section. Get rid of the white “charlotte 49ers” banner in that same corner. Remove the track. Better sound system. The list goes on and yet everything remains the same. Sigh, when we will get legit leadership.
A FOIA request was filed for information regarding expansion. There was essentially none, so either it isn’t being discussed or it is all off the record.

Thanks for that. I work for a Pac 12 University and I see how our Athletic Director keeps students, faculty, staff, alumni, fans abreast of any information within their department (weekly newsletter/emails), and what we (Charlotte) do in terms of that, is atrocious. The fact we had to submit an FOIA request to get information is ridiculous!!
I understand we need to raise the funds for expansion, upgrades. That goes without saying. But is our Marketing Dept doing anything in regards to that? Anything? Having discussions? Laying groundwork for some Capital Campaign? Starting negotiations with local small and big business? How do they expect to accomplish anything, if everything is a mystery?? I just don’t get it.
Going on a rant here, sorry. But Mike Hummer and Judy Rose should be held accountable for the lack of transparency within the Athletic Department. If they are not receiving the funds to make stadium expansion and Halton upgrades possible, they need to fast track a fundraising campaign to make those things happen. And if they don’t want to do the leg work to make that happen, it’s time to get someone in there who WILL make it happen. I’m sure there are a lot of good people who work hard in the athletic department. But when does anyone hear of any new ideas, new goals, new benchmarks coming from our AD? The only time Judy rose pops out from under her rock is to announce a new coach. Outside of that, nothing. I know I am beating a dead horse, but it’s good to vent. Thanks guys!
The largest fund raising campaign in UNC Charlotte history is under way right now, and I understand that Athletics gets a significant chunk of the money. As is typical with these things, it starts off with a quiet period (which we are in) to build up a nice strong start, and then it becomes public. The effort is no secret, they just are not publicizing it yet. Word is, it is going very well.
The things we could do with that kind of money! It does occur to me that with 10,000 donors (about 4 times what we have now?), that would be between $5000-$10,000 each. Get out those checkbooks.

Are they gonna let people live in those year round? Otherwise, how are the ECU alums going to afford? It’s not like Bank of America or Wells Fargo is lining up to purchase suites in Greenville.
We have a NICE stadium.

They said they had raised $6.4 million in 40 days at the time of the announcement so I guess someone is lining up to support. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I wish we had the financial support ECU has. I haven’t seen these Charlotte corporations step up to help us out all that often. Too much pro sports competition in CLT. The Hornets and Panthers hurt us in some ways.

Yes, why can’t those pesky pro teams go away!
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I have a dream…that I will live long enough to see us play a high profile team at BofA Stadium and at least the lower bowl will be filled, and most of those will be in NINER green. I have a DREAM…
There’s a huge gap between 15k and 76k. If we’re only gonna fill the lower bowl at the Panther stadium, I prefer to see the game ON CAMPUS.
There is a reason ECU seems to put us to shame when it comes to raising money for athletics.
