Sounds alot like the guard from Independence that we had several years ago. He come in as a spot up shooter, and left as a very good player who could take the ball to the hoop.
Rivals blurb
Travis Hammond (Richland Northeast HS, SC) - Smooth three point shooter had a big game finishing with 16 points. Showed his versatility by finishing in the lane along with his outside touch.
I don’t see us pushing after many SG’s unless they are a combo guard. We need someone who can handle the ball. Next year we have Green, Williams & Mayfield at the SG spot.
And now he’s having arguably the best pro career over any Niner since Henry Williams (IMO). I wish he would have gotten a crack at the League! We need more kids with the “refuse to lose” attitude.
Better than Rodney White? I don’t think so.
How has Rodney White been a good pro? He was drafted high but was a complete bust in the NBA. Kicked off a crappy team in Italy and cut from a team in Israel before the season started.
back on topic, I can make a thread for you guys to discuss former guys and their “greatness.”
Wouldn’t be a bad idea. It would be great if we had a thread to help keep up with some of the former Niners.
NVM
I’m just sick of people comparing any 3 point shooter who is white to being the next Jobey Thomas. This was said of Chris Sager, Plavich and Ian.
Jobey was way more than just a 3 point shooter. He was one of the most competitive, hard working players to ever wear Niner Green. He was one of our best ever leaders on and off the court. The kid knew how to win and was an all around great player.
Let’s not compare any other recruits to him.

Is this said with bias?

As long as there are niner recruits there will be comparisons to former niner players. It’s not a knock on Jobey it’s that we hope our recruits turn out to be as good and work as hard as he did.

I loved Jobey and he was all that before he left here, but he wasn’t when he first got here. At that time he was a shooter and thats about it. He improved greatly while he was here. I know that might be shocking to some who claim our players never improve but in Jobey’s case its a fact.[/b]

Jobey seemed to always have the desire to improve himself, and I think this desire applied on and off the court.
Jobey became a better player because he put in the effort. Deuce is the only guy we’ve heard about on our current roster that puts in extra time. The guys we get, if they want to be great have to put in extra time.

The same can be said for Eddie and Leemire. Player development comes with hard work. These players improved because they wanted to be the best, and they worked at it.
Jobey was deadly. 43% from three his senoir year. He nailed any open look he got. Absolutely deadly.

Rodney White had an NBA career. That is better than anyone else in the Mullins era. Say whatever you want about his career, but he made the league and played for years. Playing for 20 years overseas wouldn’t be a better pro career than 5 in the league. Ask anybody playing basketball. You want to be in the NBA.
Jobey shot it so well, when it didn’t go in it looked like it should have. He and Curry are about the best I’ve seen shooting the ball in person in a long, long time.
Probably the best I’ve seen was Hersey Hawkins when he lit us up in the Independence Arena 25 or so years ago- now that was a NBA-level performance. I think he scored 49 and his coach was fussing at him because he wouldn’t shoot the ball- true story. Some of you oldsters back this up for me.

Comparing Rodney to Jobey is too funny. Two complete different people. One with marginal talent that busted his ass to become the best player he could be and one with awesome talent who was too lazy to to become the player he could have been. Jobey had way more heart and desire than Rodney, but Rodney sheer athletic ability took him to a level that Jobey’s could not meet.

I’m not comparing them as people or players, merely their NBA careers. Context fella, look into it.
