The 49ers will play their first-ever football game in a little more than 14 months - Aug.31, 2013, at home against Campbell. That game will mark the first of a three-game homestand that will spark thousands of tailgate parties. It will be a big deal.
Does that quote make anyone else want to run and jump and scream at the top of their lungs? Note: I may or may not have done that just now.
"I kind of take that as a compliment," Lambert says about the rejections from the Big South and the Southern Conference. "They might be a little nervous to play us."

One thing Lambert does not lack is confidence. I love how he has presented himself and our team to our fans and the media when we still are months away from playing a game.
LOL. When I read that initially I was likeâŚhow did it get that close so fast? But this was at 3 am. 26 doesnât sound too much further down the road itself.
NO correction printed in the Observer today so it must be true. Football in 14 months.
Good column.
âWho are those guys going to be?â Lambert says. âWho can we beat in recruiting? Thatâs the sort of thing that keeps me awake.â
