Galen Young Down Under

I am traveling in Australia. Sat down to eat breakfast yesterday , looked down at the back page of the paper, and saw a large color photo of Galen Young waiting to go up for a rebound. Seems he’s playing for the Crocs in the Aussie Pro League. Here’s some info from a Crocs fan concerning Galen’s recent excellent season in the CBA.

Galen Young (6’7’-F/G-75, college: Charlotte) - Yakama Sun Kings

Young has proved himself as the go-to guy for the CBA champion Yakama Sun Kings all season long. Young’s 6.6 assists per game led the CBA this season. He also averaged 15.6 points per game and 7.3 rebounds in 46 contests, and compiled a 1.57 assist-to-turnover ratio. Young is the tallest player, 6-7, to ever lead the CBA in assists. For these accomplishments, Young was awarded the Most Valuable Player earlier in the post-season.

Young earned three of the CBAs six triple-doubles this season, including back-to-back triple-doubles on December 8th and 10th that earned him Player of the Week Honors. This was the first time a player had back-to-back triple-doubles since former Sun King David Vanderpool achieved this in the 2001 season. Young was named to the 2007 CBA All-Star Team, and has proven to be a leader and role model both on and off the court for the Sun Kings.

I am a basketball fan and I had no idea the CBA was even still around. Wonder why he’s not playing D-League? More money?

You can definitely make more money playing abroad than playing in the D league.

Iv’e seen Galen play in Australia twice live and about 5 times on TV. Ive been keeping everybody posted on how he’s been doing.

Last game he played in his team lost and he had 13 and 8.

If you wanna check out his box scores go to www.nbl.com.au and he plays for the Townsville Crocs

Same deal, $$ is much better. Galen isn’t 21 any more, the D league might not be a fit for the player of the team at this point in a guys career.

I don’t know about Aussie basketball teams, but European teams will provide food, housing, and a car for their players in addition to their salary. If you can make it overseas, any player should go IMO.
