What an amazing effort by the Niners at the end of the game! Way to not give up and let them just have it. Derrio caught on fire! But, we did lose this game, when we really shouldn’t have. Too much bad defense, especially in the backcourt. Also, our offense couldn’t get going for a late-game run. How do we win against top A-14 X, then lose to GW a few days later.
I was really impressed how the guys were able to close the gap at the end of the game and keep us in this. To bad we fell short though.
haha I was just thinking the same thing. We beat X and lose to GW. However, I will say that I know we got under Carl Hobbs’ skin. I overheard him whining to the police officer after the game about our crowd. Too much for old Carl. Another tough fought game for the Niners. We really couldn’t get any offense going until the end of the game.
Thinking about this game before it happened I would have agreed with you, we shouldn’t lose; but watching the game and looking at the stats it wasn’t nearly as close as 6 points:
Our bench gave us 50 minutes and only 3 points
Their bench outscored ours 21 to 3
Their A/T ratio was 17/10
Our A/T ratio was 6/13
Braswell was 1 of 7 and the 0 of 6 2pters
Yes we fought til the end, yes that makes me happy, but winning is what it’s all about and we have serious flaws.
We need more scoring.
We need another post player.
We need to learn to handle/distribute the ball better.
I love Major’s recruiting class, but I can’t believe that 5 freshman and a sophomore will create that much of a scoring boost or that Mike Thorne will be ready to give us a 2nd/3rd post presence. Turnovers and lack of interior presence are killing us.

Another game in evidence of how big, athletic teams are punking us since Phil left. GW isnt huge but abused us. You don’t allow 4 straight backdoor alleys… got to talk more guys.
We need another big for next year. Badly. We have to have someone we can put in the paint to prevent that stuff, and I dont wanna just depend on Thorne.
Yeah they killed us on boards today and went inside at will
I really hate losing to GW, such a punk school - But Hobbs can coach - Played our weakness well.
I hope next year the coaching staff pays more attention to players grades…What could of been…
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen that.

I think the guys we have now that are returning will be more in unison next year…add in the new guys for depth and we will be okay…its hard to understand why i takes an entire season plus offseason for guys to figure out a s system and each other but it does, ive seen it happen. My old school followed a 12-19 season with a 23-10 one. But next season is a long time away…and although the postseason this year is unlikely, enjoy the rest of the season!..Go Niners!
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen that.[/quote]
He’e had our number for sometime…What are the Niners 3-7 now vs GW? Ugly.
GW should have beaten us twice last year. We got very lucky at the end of the game at home last year. They know the recipe: Get in our grills with tough man-to-man defense.
When we were aggressive with the ball in the halfcourt, generally good things happened. Too often though an error at the top of the key lead to a turnover or a heavily-challenged shot.
On defense. Ugh. I don’t even want to talk about the 3 lobs in like 4 or 5 minutes. That was brutal.
There was a five minute stretch where I didn’t understand what major was doing, he played dew wilderness and kj on our front line we got abused on the alley oop they were running! Why wasn’t braz in the game more he wasn’t in foul trouble.
Did you see him play today?? His D was terrible for the most part.
Do we have any big men coming in next season? They owned us down low. Imagine if Phil Jones and Spears were in the line up today.
I hope next year grown men would pay more attention to their own grades.
Positives:
–we were able to make the final score respectable
–we had opportunities to pull ahead
–I can’t believe how much the campus has changed since I graduated in '96 - it is beautiful, and the Student Union is incredible - I’m a little jealous (I don’t have season tix anymore so I have not been to campus that much lately)
–nice videos on the scoreboard
–Halton and students were great
Negatives:
–tired of losing at homecoming (2 years in a row I think)
–we have been dunked on entirely too much
Bottom line is we need reinforcements in a bad way. We are just too undermanned to compete. Hope the recruiting class can plug in the holes. Still love the Niners!!
Disclaimer: I didn’t read through this thread, so I apologize if I repeat what’s already been said.
First off, gotta admire the way we didn’t quit when we got down 15. Derrio went ballistic.
I don’t really understand the lack of adjustment on the offensive game plan. It was clear that we weren’t really going to get anything inside in the 2nd half, but we kept trying it and kept trying it. We didn’t even make an attempt to get JB or Sirin involved and by the time we started looking to the outside, it was too late.
I’m at the point this season where I’ll take most wins as a pleasant surprise; going into this one, I thought this game was one that could’ve gone either way.
Speaking of offensive adjustments, I don’t understand why Sirin is not in at
the end of some of these close games when we have to have a bucket or
we are going to be fouled and have to hit freethrows.
I know he gets torched on defense but he is another scoring option that
has to be covered. Other teams do not worry about Wilderness on the perimeter.
The guys did not give up today and made a run.
Tough season, Maybe coach is building some character for next year.

no
i still don’t like braswell and don’t think i ever will.
he always has the give up attitude, but oh wait he’ll shoot a 3 pointer so he can impress the crowd and get the attention he doesn’t deserve.
oh and why was colby lewis played for so long?
