Has staff given up on Barden?

Theyā€™re prepping him to transfer so Riley can come here.
With us now where we are at QB, has anyone in the media questioned Lambert why he did not consider Riley joining the team last off-season? Would he even address it???
he canā€™t mention players by name who are not on his team or signed to play for the team.

Seriously? I hope this was sarcastic because itā€™s the dumbest thing Iā€™ve read in a while. You donā€™t deserve info on a player that is not on the roster, period. Heā€™s not here so get over it.

And not to mention, you could put Aaron Rodgers in at QB and we are still a long way off from competing in some of these games. We are a team comprised of FCS level talent trying to play FBS level football and itā€™s going to be painful until the talent increases and the young guys develop.

With yesterdayā€™s game:

Allegedly, (because I damned sure didnā€™t read his book) Roy Williams threw some recruit who declined to come to UNC_CHeat under the bus in his epic tome ā€œHard Workā€.
Lambert isnā€™t teflon coated nor classless enough to do that.

4ever. you are correct. at least about the ā€œmockingā€. perhaps not so much the polite, tho i do try.

Yes we have given up on Barden or he would be our starter right now. Klugh coach at A&T didnā€™t think too highly of his abilities.

Here is some Riley info. 3 offers and none are from us.

I was with you until that last part. I donā€™t think you can name 3 things needed more than better quarterback play.

Our starting QB has the worst rating in FBS: http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/player/_/stat/passing/sort/collegeQuarterbackRating/order/false

That 72 isnā€™t to be confused with QBR. His raw QBR is a 9.2ā€¦ Matt ā€œthe human turnoverā€ johnson has a raw QBR that is almost 5x higher!

But letā€™s be honest, 42 isnā€™t getting it done either.

Iā€™m not arguing we donā€™t have other issues, but QB is by far the biggest by a mile.

Our defense has been decent this year, so I donā€™t really know how you can put that above the most important position on offense. Our defense only starts sucking after the O has hung them out to dry time after time after time.

College football is an offensive game, I wouldnā€™t get my hopes up for a truly elite defense. Best chance to compete is to have an offense that is capable of outscoring the opponent. There simply isnā€™t that much defensive talent out there and the SEC sucks up a huge chunk of it.

We punt at 39.3 per game. If we increased that only 4 yards, weā€™d be in the top 30% of college footballā€¦so again, I donā€™t think it is really realistic to think that a better punter is really going to drastically change our fortunes. It also would matter less if we didnā€™t leave our punter punting with an exceptionally long field all the time. Hart isnā€™t doing very well, but if he were consistently punting from the 30 or 40 yard line, he would pretty frequently be pinning opponents inside the 20-30 yard line on the other side of the field.

Our offense is patheticā€¦mostly because of QB play. We have pretty decent receivers and a stud RB. QB is the problem. We are playing guys that didnā€™t even really have much in the way of FCS offers at the FBS level. I donā€™t blame them for not being able to handle it, their recruitment shows they werenā€™t FBS quality. I pin it on our coaches for not trying to address the problem with a JUCO or 5th year player. Lambert said before the season that they had a plan for QB and they were sticking to that plan, but that plan was terrible. It was too soon to expert Barden to contribute and everyone going into the season pointed out our QBs as major weaknesses, so it isnā€™t like this sneaked up on us. Bringing in a guy to play for 1-2 years while we developed Barden and possibly a few other recruits was needed. With a mediocre QB, we have wins against FAU and ODU and are likely sitting at 4-3 right now. We donā€™t even need a good one to get to 4 wins with our schedule so far. A mediocre one would have been enough.

Iā€™m not a football coach, and neither is anyone else here, but it was painfully obvious to anyone that QB was a huge weakness playing low level opponents. I donā€™t know why our coaches thought what we had was acceptable with a huge step up in competition.

I think everyone is pretty kosher with losing this year, but losing with a bad QB that canā€™t throw farther than 5 yards and is statistically the worst on our roster is frustrating as hell.

Iā€™ve lost a lot of faith in the staff for sticking with Lee McNeil.

That said, you canā€™t just trot out a boring product that inspires no hope in your fanbase. When you do that, you end up with a homecoming on a perfect fall day with less than 14,000 people in attendance (and realistically, probably only about 12,000). Weā€™re not even remotely entertaining to watch. If I didnā€™t mind being a part of the problem, I wouldnā€™t come to another game this year because there are far more entertaining ways to spend my Saturday afternoons. Not coming doesnā€™t help grow the program though, so Iā€™ll be there, but most other people donā€™t care as much as the people on this board.

Most people feel no obligation to attend sporting events. They go to be entertained. Bottom line is that weā€™re not entertaining.

I spoke to Tank Williams mom last year. She told me he was a Qb who had never played defense before coming to Charlotte. He also only held an offer from NCCU when we came calling. I would imaging we still have 25 guys on the roster with similar stories who are playing often. I think a lot of Tank and think if we were still in FCS, heā€™d be a great success story.

At this point, we are not playing with a full deck.

I donā€™t understand why weā€™re talking about poor play from other roster spots? I donā€™t really have any problem with most other folksā€™ play. While they could do better, they mostly are competitive (even though they make mistakes).

Lee McNeil has no business starting at QB for any team in FBS, and probably not very many in FCS.

I canā€™t think of a single other starter on our team that I could that that about.

i mostly agree with this statement. while i think our lbā€™s and secondary need some more speed, we are mostly competitive at all positions but our qbā€™s are killing us.
