Seth Davis reporting that Sendek is strongly considering the ASU job opening and has been offered the job. Interested to see who NCSU would hire.

I hope he takes it and NC STate goes in the toilet…It would serve them right…

The world of college basketball is spinning completely out of control.

I didn’t know that Appalachain had an opening.
And why would Sendek want to go there?
I guess winning the Div 1-AA football championship is a strong recruiting tool for Men’s Basketball. The Mountaineers are getting stronger and stronger!!
Surprising though.
Sendek took the arizona state job, look for lutz to head up tobacco road

On The Wolf Web, the most commonly mentioned names for replacements have been:
- Gregg Marshall (Winthrop)
- Sean Miller (Xavier)
- Jim Larranaga (Mason)
- Johnny Dawkins (Duke) - most people not taking that seriously
- Karl Hobbs (GW)
Most of the names I have seen mentioned are Barnes, Pitino, Tubby Smith, Self, Izzo, Donovan, Nate McMillan, Jay Wright, Thad Matta, among others.
I want what some of the State fans are smoking…
Raleigh N&O mentions Barnes and Calimari as candidates. Please don’t mess this state up by bringing Cal to Carolina!

It is so funny that this is actually their list…They may be the most delusional fans in all of college sports…
Its almost as funny as some of our fans thinking that Lutz is a realistic candidate for this job.
They have a thread of coaches that they absolutely do NOT want:
Dave Odom leads the list with Bobby’s name about third or fourth. Their fan base doesn’t want anything to do with Lutz. Most of them really believe that Rick Barnes or John Calipari will save them.
They would not have to worry about Odom, he’s almost at retirement age. THe question is with Herb’s recruitment of players who can play in a deliberate offense, can the fans be happy for 2-3 years with a coach who wants to be fast paced without the right players?
Comment from the Greensboro News & Record…
Potential candidates to become the next head basketball coach at N.C. State:
Rick Barnes, Texas head coach (below): Has the North Carolina upbringing (Hickory) and is a favorite of Wolfpack fans for his fiery temperament and ability to recruit. But he’s got a great gig in Austin and, as a friend of Sendek’s, may not be happy with the State fan base right now.
John Calipari, Memphis head coach: Another guy with fire and recruiting chops. Plus, he might be happy to trade Conference USA for the ACC. But Calipari would probably have a hefty price tag, and his reputation as a rule follower is less than stellar.
Frank Haith, Miami head coach: Haith, who was Barnes’ top recruiter at Texas before moving to Miami, makes a lot of sense. The Western Alamance graduate has the roots and would likely have the desire to move from football crazy Miami to Tobacco Road. But would the ACC allow a move within the conference?
Dave Odom, South Carolina head coach: Odom also has the North Carolina upbringing (Goldsboro) and has won two of those ACC titles that State fans crave so much. But he faded at Wake and is only bringing home NIT banners to Columbia.
Sean Miller, Xavier head coach: If Lee Fowler wants to stay in the Herb Sendek coaching tree, Miller would likely be on the top branch. He has been an assistant at State and took the Muskateers to the NCAA tournament this year.
Nate McMillan, Portland Trail Blazers head coach: He’d have to take a huge pay cut if he wants to move from the NBA to the college ranks. But McMillan has a son, Jamelle, who is a rising senior in high school and is a high-major basketball recruit. Plus, after coaching the Blazers, Raleigh would seem tame by comparison.
Dereck Whittenburg, Fordham head coach: Wake up the echoes! Whittenburg would certainly please the more nostalgic State fans. But after success at Wagner, he’s struggled in his two years at Fordham (19-38).
Say it isn’t so.
Unless Lutz takes us deeeep into the NCAAs soon, he will have missed the boat for “better” jobs. No one mentions him anymore for anything. He’s cooled waaay down. He probably thinks he should have left after the 2001 season. Now what???

It was wishful thinking on my part. As amember of the Charlotte fan base, I don’t want anything to do with Lutz!
Wow, this off season is insane. The entire landscape of college basketball has changed over the last 3 weeks, with Mason in the final four, Huggins at KSU, Herb is out… etc…
It’ll be interesting to see the top 30 programs next year after all the coaching changes
