Herlocker Closing Its Doors

i was told by the people at cookout on sugar creek that they are opening one in the university area…maybe there?

I was at UNCC for 5.5 years and in CLT for a total of 7, and never once eat at Herlocker… hmmm with all this praise maybe I shoulda tried it out :frowning:

i just ate there for the first time 2 weeks ago. it was great
No Way. You just made my day. Exit 28 off of where? How do I get there?
I shed a tear when I saw it burning down on the news. This is great that it still lives!
Off of I77…if you’re heading south take right at top of ramp. Take right at first light and it is less than 1/4 mile on your right.
I live off of exit 28 (I-77) and ate at the cook house yesterday as I do several times a week. It is as if someone picked up a piece of NINERELAND and dropped it in my backyard. I had baked chicken with dressing, collard greens, fried squash, and a salad with ranch. It was excellent. I eat breakfast there 2-3 times a week. Enough eggs, hashbrowns, meats of your choice, biscuts and gravy, toast, and tomatoes to last you all day!!!
I ate there 4 times a week in college. #17, mashed potatoes w/gravy, and applesticks, cup of soup of day, scoop of desert, all under $5. They charge for the desert now.

The owner says many people come in that ate there when they were in school, and comment that they are glad they found it. I asked him about getting an old school t-shirt, but they don’t have anymore.

i use to love to go in there because with all of the cookie cutter restuarants in the university area, herlockers was a place unto itself. few places in and and around the unversity left like that.

Oh what I wouldn’t give for a Herlocker Burger plate right now! -Ummmm tasteee

Delicious fries…homemade ice tea…crushed ice…grouchy, cigarette smoking, old lady waitresses…HEAVEN
That stuff is as good as anything outside of Lexington.
So is a big steaming pile of feces. Am I the only one in Charlotte who things Lexington style BBQ is teh suck? Eastern NC style is so much better.

the hijack begins

I am going to have to stop by this week for my last serving of the only onion rings I ever liked. I gotta give it it the Herlockers. They have been able to run that place for how many years without ever changing a ceiling tile?

Just went there today for lunch.

Damn, I’m gonna miss those onion rings.

i was wondering why there were so many cars out front lately

there was a line…a pretty long one…just to get INTO herlockers tonight…dude may make enough money this week to start something better soon

Ive heard through the grapevine tomorrow will be the last day, though there is no way to verify, I think I will still go.

There is one opening at the Concord Mills Blvd/Speedway Blvd exit (#49 on I-85)… right between the Zaxby’s and Sonic.

Also, if you go up Concord Mills Blvd (towards the mall), there is a new place called “Fosters Grille” on the right hand side (next to the AutoBell) that opened within the last couple of weeks… Pretty strong burger there! They claim they are the “Home of the Char-burger”… but don’t let that scare you… it’s just that they put a “little char/crust” on it… quite tasty in my opinion. Also, prices up on the board there include drink and fries - fries are pretty strong too - so don’t let the pricing shock you… it lists the burger at something like $7.99 or $8.29 … but does include drink and fries.

Re: Herlocker’s… quite the institution. Stopped by there on Friday for lunch - had to get one last Carolina Burger (okay, I got two)… the place was jammed. Not sure of the plans by the owners, but I would be glad to see them “resurface” up on the new section of Mallard Creek near school… seems like they are clearing land for a bit of development up that way. Of course, it will be a “new fangled place” and a bit more modern than the original, but I consider them essentially a part of the University.

A year or so back, one of the owners (Matt’s dad, I don’t know his name) told me when they closed, they won’t reopen…they are making a killing off the land, though.

I still think they will be back. They’ll miss it, just like the Tasty Platter did…it’s in the blood!

Well, it looks like Cookout purchased the Herlocker property…
