How UTSA became college football's best startup

Great article. I hope we can come close to what UTSA has done. They looked really good against Houston.

Because they got U of Miami’s coach.

I hope so too. And I think we have a good shot at it.

I think we have a better chance of going to the Elite 8 than we do getting half the wins UTSA got in their first year of FBS ball. If we weren’t playing Georgia State and maybe FIU next year, I wouldn’t have any confidence that we’d win a single FBS game all season.

Concern with UTSA is sustainability since they have so many Seniors. Time will tell if they took the best route.

Yes. They have 40 seniors this year, so you know there will be a drop off. We will have a similar situation in a few years but hopefully not nearly as bad. Players getting kicked off the team may have helped us in this situation, but we are looking at losing 8 starters on offense and 5/6 starters on defense after 2016.

Theoretically we’re bringing in higher caliber of recruits and soon I imagine we’ll dabble in more FBS transfers and JUCOs.

What are the chances we play UTSA next year?

35%. They’re West Division and we’ll play 2 of them every year.

Ok so we get them next year at home. Beat them and take their mojo!

Nothing is set in stone. Just looking at what our situation could be.

This happened to La Tech from 2012 into 2013. Provides for tough sledding.
