For those not in the shoutbox, this means Dinkins can not go out and recruit/evaluate talent. His interactions are limited with prospective student athletes: day of for unofficials and a small window around officials (I think 5-7 days but can’t recall).

Still means we need our 3rd assistant, unless the Marcus Conrad person landed 3rd assistant spot. Which would be odd since he’s been here for weeks and hasn’t had a press release. Which leads me to we are still looking.

This definitely impacts things, such as Donovan Gregory… We can’t recruit Carmel for 2 years:

Why would we hire him if HE can’t recruit and we can’t recruit from his school for 2 years. I thought those were the 2 main reasons to hire him. Now we give him a position that doesn’t allow him to do the things we needed/wanted him to do.

Sounds like something Judy would do…I thought she was gone.

Maybe I’m just underestimating the impact he can have in this position but limiting our ability to recruit local talent doesn’t really make sense to me. I know Hill & Sanchez know a lot more about running a basketball program than I do so I will have faith that there is good reason for this move.

Could it be interest/tickets/dollars? It doesn’t help, losing the ability to recruit those players but it doesn’t necessarily hurt. Maybe they wanted Dink to attract interest in the program and felt he could help In the long run.

Something is going on…because on the surface, this makes very little sense. It’s great to have a former Niner on the staff…but he literally is in a position to have no impact in recruiting…which is exactly why, I thought, we were interested in having him on staff.
