Most of those games were in the old Sun Belt Conference, and the 49ers weren’t too good during most of that tenure. Gosh, please don’t give Heckler any more ammo, let them thrive and dominate in the powerful Conference USA next season.
As for Cincinnati, we’re catching them at a good time… after a big emotional game against Pitino’s crew and before a visit from Wake Forest.
I would say @St. Louis, Cincy and Louisville will be far tougher than UAB can be. Cincy and Louisville are just good and we have a psychological issue with St. Louis’ arena.
If we play as we are capable we will be UAB with little trouble. But we’re going to have to come out and get ahead. If we let them linger, as we’ve been prone to doing, they’ll be able to beat us. But if we get up on them and maintain there’s no way we lose. THey’re simply not as good as they were last year.
The UAB game will be a tough out. I do not see us blowing them out by any means unless BP does what Demon did down there a couple of years ago. It could happen, but UAB is a too good a team this year to allow that I think. Expect a nailbiter.
It’s as simple as not letting Curtis bring the ball into the halfcourt like he did in the CUSA tournament. If you committ < 20 turnovers, you’ll beat UAB handily. They are all about forcing turnovers and getting open court points while disrupting your normal offensive set. If Mitch, Eddie, and Leemire do the primary ball handling from baseline to beyond halfcourt, I’m not worried.
If Brendan and Curtis is bringing it up, lord mercy.

I don't think we'll blow them out either. But I could see us maintaining an 8 to 10 point lead throughout the game. But we will inevitably have a cold spell so we need to have a cushion. I do expect it to be close.

I keep wondering when teams are going to figure out that Withers trails just about every time we bring the ball up court and he gets the ball and then he passes it to Eddie on the left side to start a play. It’s like Groundhog Day watching it. Some fast guard is going to telegraph that little setup and make an easy layup.
With our recent lack of success against them, I would agree that we need to have Mitch and Goldwire in the game together for long stretches of the game, maybe even go with three guards, Withers at center (designated under the basket dunker in games like this) and Eddie at PF. Iti should be able to help us guard the basket on all their dribble penetration.
We need to do something different against them. The last five against them we are
1-4.

Agree. We need Mitch to show up like he did against Louisville last year. He’s quick enough to break their press at will. Curtis will need to have a big game as well. They can’t stop him, only he can stop himself.
BTW, where can you find our records against all the teams in the conference? I looked around the C-USA website but couldn’t find it.
No way this game is an easy one … on the road and playing a team that typically does something well that we don’t … play defense. Although they have had 4 games this year where they have given up 80+ … hopefully we can be one of those teams as well.

Media Guide breaks down our record against every team we’ve ever played…also breaks it down by location (home/away).
