Isn't it exciting!

Man this A10 sure is fantastic. ESPN is predicting a whopping 2 teams to go to the tourney. This is every bit as good as the old Sun Belt conference in 1988. Maybe the conferences will realign again in a few years, and we can join the Southwestern 4A, and have some killer rivalry games with North Meck.

Predicted BIDS BY CONFERENCE (by ESPN 1/10/06):
Big East (8)
Big Ten (7)
ACC (6)
Big 12 (4)
Pac-10 (4)
SEC (4)
Conference USA (3)
Missouri Valley (3)
Atlantic 10 (2)
Mountain West (2)
WAC (2)

The sad thing is that we may not be one of the (two) predicted. The conference affiliation doesn’t matter, we hurt ourselves this year. The A10 will be a better long term fit than CUSA.

Are you suggesting that we would have be better off taking our 7-5 Nonconference record to C-USA? Sorry, not buying it.

Actually survivor he’s not suggesting anything. It’s just another brick in the vedetta house metro has been building against Judy for years now. He hates her. Judy is responsible for us not getting in the Big East, not having football, global warming, the bird flu and pretty much anything else wrong in the world.

Nothing new or worth your time even discussing with him.

Actually North Meck is in the ME-CA Six.

It wasn’t long ago that C-USA only sent three to the Dance. The sky is not falling.

wrong MK, I don’t hate her, she is a fine person, just a terrible manager.

Vendetta? I’d agree with that. I am a 49er, she is not. She is more concerned with status quo than I am leaping forward.

Responsible for bird flu? nahh. She is responsible for the complete apathy our program is going thru right now. The lack of funds, the lack of excitement, etc.

For those putting words in my mouth regarding CUSA, I didn’t mention CUSA.

The A10 was our only option…that is the problem.

CUSA is as bad as the A10. Where did I mention CUSA?

I will give you a history lesson though:
USF and UNCC have been mirror schools for 25 years, they rolled the dice, now they are in the Big East…looks like about 8 teams will be dancing from the Big East.

Since you struggle with reading comprehension, let me lay it out for you. The boat sailed and we missed it, unlike USF. All this BS about how many “points” the A10 accumulates in the NCAA tourny is hogwash. Its a shitty conference.

TF, when you have been a graduate for 10 years, get back to me. You have not seen how far the sky has fallen.

We were once an up and coming athletic program, now we are right back to 1988 and the Sun Belt.

Exactly! What is currently being done to move this program forward? Since the adminstration recently stated that they were happy to go forward without football, what will our options be when the next round of realignment occurs?

USF has more than twice the amount of students than Charlotte does. I think their enrollment was 42,000+. I don’t think they are mirror schools.

Without football, it will be to remain in the A-10. Even with football, it may be to remain in the A-10.

The pie in the sky hope is that the Big East will Split and have a non-football and football conference in which case we could get into there with Marquette and Depaul and A-10 programs like Temple, Dayton, Xavier, GW and a few others. This is our “best” hope, though I don’t know how likely it is.

And people should bare in mind that had we had football there’s no certainty we’d have been invited to the Big East.

Correct.

The University of South Florida is the second largest university in the southeast and among the top 20 largest in the nation.

What’s interesting (and that I didn’t know) is that they’ve only been around since 1956. The Tampa/St. Pete area is also bigger than Charlotte, I think.

freaking AKRON has a D1 football team…AKRON!!!

they went to a bowl this year too!

yet we can’t make it work, and half of you believe that crap.

Akron’s basketball team has been to the NCAA tourny 7 out of 10 years (or whatever the number for us is) haven’t they?

We can add football and be mediocre at all sports. There is a cost associated with adding football.

don’t know,
but once you start football you cant concetrate on hoops too…lol

Akron:
22,000 students
public university
pathetic market
low income

Goodyear doesn’t hurt, but hell we have our share of corps too.

cincinnati’s football program sucks, i mean horrible but the fact they have a good basketball program and have something you can call a football team they got into the Big East.

another strategy, absent going back in time and installing forward thinking leadership in the early 90’s, is to denounce our socialist masters in raleigh and let the Catholic church take over. Then we could use the Notre Dame connection to get into the Big East like Marquette and Depaul.

the past is the past, at this point we need forward thinking leadership to get us into a top tier conference in a decade. or hope for Big East to split as mentioned.

This is my first post but I totally agree, the market can support football. I am a alum of the university and it saddens me everytime friends of mine who went to state or carolina or wake gear up for a football season, and I am left in the cold until Mid November to have something to look forward to. Judy is a terrible manager, or just maybe a person who cannot see the light at the tend of the tunnel. Every person knows if we had a football team even one that had 60 walk-ons we would be playing basketball in the Big East. 2 tourney bids is unacceptable, and I don’t see the league getting more than two bids with the quality of teams that are in the league. I wish she would quit feeding us BS and just flat out say we intend to not have a football team at this University. What Up 49erwhit, I took your advice and joined the cause.

Joe you DO have an option… adopt another school. For years I had Carolina season tickets for football. Recently I have adopted Oregon as my “football school” and hope to go see a few games. The fact that they are green doesn’t hurt. Just because I don’t have a team at MY school doesn’t mean I can’t still enjoy college football. The leadership of this university stinks, Judy stinks, our basketball program is taking a step backwards, our coach seems to have leveled out, the conference we are now is has NO national powers (by that I mean title contenders which GW is NOT). HELLO MID MAJOR! When we joined CUSA there was Looserville and Cincy to help pull up the conference. In the A10 WE are one of the marquee teams, which we all know is sad because we get no national or local respect even when doing well. Fact is we are a very large school, without football and apparently happy with the fact we don’t have it. Wow this is such a great time to be a Niner… we missed our chance and when the next realignment happens maybe we will be conference rivals with Davidson… wait don’t they have a football team???
