Yes it was on Twitter. Duke basketball tweeted a pic of them practicing on our practice court - said thanks to @charlotte49ers.[/quote]
huh…ok…maybe they did meet with Capel, or would that have been too weird?
Capel excites me a whole more than several of the other coaches getting hyped up on this board. He is coming from one of the best ran programs in history.

Here is my theory. He mentioned something to someone on AD about maybe being interested while they were on campus. AD responded with interest as well and gave pause to the Wade interview which caused that to fall aprt.
If we can’t get a HC from somewhere that’s got a really good resume at a smaller school, this may be the next best thing. I think he’d be great for recruiting and bring recognition to the program. It worries me though if he translates into a true head coach and can run the program.
This is really a huge hire and a big deal IMO. We’ve got to get this right. Gun to my head I think I’d rather get a guy with good HC experience.

This. This hire would good in that it would be a big splash, which would be good for us, but is he ready to be a head coach yet? We do absolutely need to get this hire right or our program could fade away into obscurity.

He’s been a head coach before at both VCU and Oklahoma. Coached Blake Griffin at Oklahoma

Well, Jeff Capel was a head coach for about 10 years at Oklahoma and VCU.

Wasn’t he the head coach at VCU (before Shaka Smart) and Oklahoma (after Kevin Sampson) previously?

Wasn’t he a true head coach at VCU and Oklahoma? VCU probably won’t be what it is today, if it wasn’t for the success he had with the Rams. Coached Blake Griffin and had some decent squads at OU. Winning record as a head coach at 175-110.
