Exactly, a bucket or two. I would hardly call Rodney White a prototypical POST player. He also shot his share of threes if you recall.

Nice to see that this one has turned into another miscast cause/effect argument. Try again NUN.

I don't see any excuse why he shouldn't touch the ball every half court set we run.

I do. This is Lutz’s offense and Withers doesn’t shoot the three. Come on guys, it’s not like Lutz was just hired, he has been here for more than five years. Our offense does not run through the post, never has under Lutz. We run Diego, Demon, Jobey, Plavich, (Insert name here) around staggered screens on the baseline and force threes. We don’t utilize post players effectively or often. It’s not going to happen under Lutz.

Sounds like selective memory to me. You must not remember the offense we ran with Galen, Kelvin, and Tremaine Gardner in Lutz’s first and second year. Jobey was a Freshman and Diego, a Sophomore I believe. We fed Kelvin and Tremaine down-low and they kicked it out and the guards moved the ball (watch the UNC tape). Yes, Diego and Jobey still shot a lot of threes but the ball went inside first. Kelvin, Tremaine and Galen got their points.

The same thing worked when we had Cam and Rodney.

It helps to have big guys who can play. See the years of Reed, Williams, Neeley, Whitehead for examples of years we fired up threes without going inside.

Exactly. Please go watch any tape from last year, and I hope that Withers qualfies as a ā€œbig guy who can playā€ and our ofense is completely lopsided towards baseline screens as opposed to draw double on Withers and kick out. With Withers and Iti doen low and Demon and Plav outside, there is no way we shouldn’t have gotten open looks against any defense. The Texas Tech game is a perfect example.

Why does everyone seem to want to be apologists for Lutz’s offense?

How many times last year inside a minute and down two did we force threes rather than give the ball to Withers on the blocks? His offense is what it is, a great underdog or Division III offense. Live by the three, die by the three.

My whole point is that posters keep saying that Withers is an All-American (he certainly should be) and he should touch the ball every possession (he certainly won’t under Lutz’s offense), we all know that but unfortunately we have to live in reality.

I remember giving the ball to Withers every possession during the UAB (homecoming) game. He had a career high in points but we lost.

The same people voice the same tired arguments blasting Lutz for scheming to his personnel. We should make a dead horse forum for it too. If we had an offensively dominant true big man playing in the post, we’d throw him the ball. Instead, we get by on tweeners like Curtis & Rodney.

It also wouldn’t kill us to get a big guy who could can FTs at an 80% clip. Heck, I’d even settle for 70%.

We’ve got our work cut out for us.

When we had Spears and Braswell, 2 good FT shooting post players, we led the league in FTs attempted.
