Lester discussion

It is MajorOliver’s preference to bring their most explosive offensive weapon off the bench. By all accounts Braxton fits that profile at Charlotte. It is highly likely Braxton will be a reserve his 1st year as a 49er.
Braxton is not Lester.

I’m not going to trash Lewis. He’s a good ball player. I’ll just say this, his style of play didn’t mesh with NCSU’s offense that basically centered on getting the ball to TJ Warren and little else. I don’t know if our offense really works THAT great for him but it’d provide him more freedom (which he needs without looking over his shoulder) and the ability to use his high level passing skills to more evenly distribute the ball. If he wants to come here, cool. If not, no big deal.

Your Right … Lester is a proven D1 offensive weapon… Braxton is not

Your Right … Lester is a proven D1 offensive weapon… Braxton is not
The point I’m trying to make is that I think Braxton will start with Henry playing the 2 guard. I believe that Lester made my case for me during the later part of the season that he shouldn’t start.
If the light comes on in his head this off season, he can still be a hell of a player.

I love Lester, but he is not a proven weapon. He shot 42% from the field and 31% from 3. Those are tough numbers. However, none of the other guards are much better.

He did the same thing with Braswell.
For different reasons I think. If I remember accurately, Chris was a starter until some minor disciplinary action kept him out of the starting lineup and that worked well enough that coach decided
to just let him come off the bench in subsequent games. Some one will correct me if I’m wrong. I know Braswell started at some point because I do remember him taking a long time to get ready after
taking the court. (C’mon Chris, just get in the center circle and jump already)

He didn’t start at the beginning of the year because he was suspended. I think he was inserted in the starting lineup because we started losing.

Guards rule college basketball. A good set of guards can take you far, and very far. Look at UConn, yea sure they have size, but the Napier and Boatwright run that team.

Look at Kentucky, the Harrison twins are running that team, with NBA ready Randle on the inside. If Florida doesn’t have Wilbekin running their offense, they are probably done for by now. UMass had success this year with Chaz Williams at the point. Jay Wright has run 3 and even 4 guard lineups for years at Villanova. Speed kills in college basketball, most big guys aren’t adept enough to move their feet properly and keep up with the pace of play. Those who can, usually dominate (see Anthony Davis, who happened to play guard in HS).

The goal we should have is to get guards who can consistently attack and create their own shot, while surrounding them with guys who can rebound effectively (a la Clayton) to give extra opportunities on the offensive end.

The defensive end is all coaching, and something we need to improve upon.

I know it’s tempting to want to argue with sokool just for the sake of arguing. But not a proven weapon? He was 2nd on the team in scoring coming off of the bench, was a freshman, and only played the 6th most minutes.

Lester’s scoring ability is one of our least concerns. Less turnovers and better defense, sure.

Not saying Tyler WOULD start (not all that far-fetched though) but you realize he was a McD AA and started on a pretty good NCAA tourney team.
That’s true, Florida doesn’t have anyone as good as TJ Warren.

NCSU-level talent is different from Florida-level talent.
Thread = hilarious

Henry was an all conference player that was in the top 5% of the country in both steals and assists.
Yet according the SoFool he is terrible.

A 6’3 small forward? Even in the lowly CUSA that aint a recipe for success.

Sullivan is a lock at that spot and he better play it well.
It is really perverse that you come to this board for the sole reason to disparage college athletes and their coaches. You should really get a life.
Clueless … this is a message board … opinions are expressed. If you’re to dumb to realize that crawl back under your rock and don’t visit message boards.
A message board that you only visit when things aren’t going well so you can disparage players and coaches and make it personal. You have issues, serious ones. I hope you get help one day. Don’t bother responding because you have now been blocked.

Good chance we will be playing against Tyler next year as the rumor is he is headed to Davidson…

sorry the year after…

The irony…

Actually, some guys just plain out suck at defense, whether it’s due to slow foot speed, poor IQ, or lack of patience/discipline. Coaching can help, but shit, half the time you just hide your worst defender in a zone, or put him on the other team’s shittiest player.
Cant wait to see Lutz hate drip into this
Nice try trying to derail things. Lewis committed to NCSU when Lowe was HC and kept that commitment when Gottfried was hired. Lutz wasn’t there at that time.

Transfers reflect on the HC.

A guy who is excellent at the fundamentals may just suck at defense because he is not big or fast enough. Meanwhile, guys that are fast, athletic, and long may suck at fundamentals but excel simply because of athleticism.
