Live in Matthews?

Anyone live in Matthews?

My wife and I are looking at two options: one in a neighborhood called Brightmoor and another in Sardis Woods.

Any thoughts or advice on these two neighborhoods? One better than the other? Thanks!

Decide based on where the nearest Wal-mart is.

obviously HP is kidding, you want to be in the neighborhood farthest away from Wal-Mart.

Sardis Woods is just down the st from my HS - Providence. Nice mature neighborhood.

Brightmore has had 2 murders there. Fred Lane and that strangled kid. Still a decent place in the burbs.

If you want closer to town, go SWoods, if you want to be on the perimeter go BM. One sweet thing about Bmoore is Francis Beaty Park down the street- awesome.

If you have kids make sure each school is a good fit.

Matthews is a real nice area. Especially for raising a young family. They have a lot of things going on in the area always. I grew up in Mint Hill, but was in Matthews a lot. I also worked at the Siskey YMCA in Matthews while in college.

Matthews is boring and stuffy. And the commute to the fun side of town is far too long. And the traffic sucks.

That’s the POV of a guy who spent his formative years living in Matthews. The grass is always greener.

From what we can tell, Brightmoor is a much more desirable neighborhood with a better resale.

Thanks for the info!

I’m moving to Matthews at the end of the month. In a neighborhood called “The Heathers.”

A very good friend of mine lived in Sardis woods for a while, and he said he absolutely loved it. FWIW.

Where doesn’t the traffic suck in Charlotte these days? And what is the fun side of town?

Matthews is an awesome place to raise a family. The whole area from Matthews to Weddington is fantastic. I loved living there.

Traffic sucks all over, but I swear it’s worse headed towards Matthews.

The fun side of town is Plaza-Midwood/Noda/Southend.

I agree about the family. If I had kids I would probably move somewhere like Matthews. But man it sucks if you’re a party animal like me.

Well 485 is the worst road in Charlotte. And Providence Road kinda blows. But have you driven around Lake Norman?

Yeah I would never tell a single guy to live in Matthews.

qft.

While I am not a fan of either, I’d have to say Sardis Woods > Brightmoor, and it’s not close.

What are you basing that on Chisox?

Do you have kids? If so, Matthews is a great spot to raise a family.

I had a million friends who lived in Matthews when I was in middle school and high school, so I know the area very well.

Sardis Woods just seems like a much nicer area than Brightmoor. Brightmoor is very cookie cutter, has no character at all.

Just drive around both places on Saturday and see who has the hottest women/moms… there’s your decision.

You know what they say about opinions…:shades:

Yeah. They say mine is right, because I’m awesome.

We have a son, 6 months old, and plan on having more. Are you sure you are thinking of Sardis Woods and not Sardis Forest, which is right across the street?

Brightmoor goes to a much nicer school than Sardis Woods and seems to have a much higher resale and less days on the market. Those are our three main concerns.

I live on Sardis Road, part of the Lansdowne neighborhood, and we looked at those areas when we bought this house in 1988. Brightmoor was new then, and we felt it was a little too tract-homey, and a little too close to 485, which was just being built. IMO, it hasn’t appreciated as well as some other neighborhoods since then, but not a bad place to live.

Sardis Woods is an older neighborhood, relatively small, off of Sardis Road North. I think you may be referring to Sardis Forest, which is a very large neighborhood built in the late 70’s/early 80’s. The main entrance is on Sardis Road, not far from the Hwy 51 intersection. Generally larger homes than Brightmoor, with a lot more brick homes, and mature yards. Very nice neighborhood, and values have done well there. They also have a very nice swim club.
