Their football team would absolutely wipe the floor with us this year. We’ve had games with an empty stadium too. No need to be so obsessed, especially when we as fans have no room to talk.

Give me a break… Also, I think they have had a 50 year head start with this football thing so they probably SHOULD beat us at this point. But, they are not THAT great.

I know from reading threads here that some of their fans are obsessed with us… but I look forward to the day when none of our fans give a damn about them.
People here and there want to deny it…but there is a real rivalry between the 2 schools and I like it. And I hate how people claim that rivalries must have similar win/loss records to qualify as a rivalry…it doesn’t. 2 schools in close proximity with pride and jealousy…that meet in competition = rivalry. They have a long standing tradition with the most popular sport in today’s world…but we have the money, the size and the metropolitan location. We both feel superior to the other for those reasons…and we are both jealous of the other for those same reasons.
Nothing wrong with the friendly hatred…as it establishes something we both need in this era of P5 & G5…a regional nemesis that energizes the fan base.
Face it…conference realignment has destroyed regional rivalries and many fan bases have nothing to draw them to games other than a winning team. Regional rivalries puts butts in seats…PASSIONATE butts in seats nonetheless.
I don’t think we nor they need to get too wrapped up in each other’s business. But the rivalry is good for both of us now that we are both members of Conferences that have us travelling all over the country without any rivalry or name recognition competition to draw fans to.
Honestly, I hope what many probably don’t. That all of this realignment will eventually lead to the “leftover” schools re-establishing regional conferences again. I miss the passion of Charlotte - Cincy and there is no way we will ever re-create that ever again if we keep conference hopping during each realignment into conferences with teams spread out all over the country.
I would love a chance to be at the big table with all of the big boys…but we may be too late to the party to do so. So, if the next best option is to embrace that reality and re-group into a regional conference with App State, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Davidson, etc…at least the regional pride would make for some VERY heated contests in all sports.
Admit it…the passion, energy and attendance for games in that type of conference would dwarf what we have in CUSA or even if we made the next jump to AAC or Big East.
But that will never happen either if it’s all about chasing the $$ of the national TV contracts…which it is.
