Thundering Herd did more than just lose the game to WKU on Saturday - also lost one of their best players when 6-9 PF Ajdin Penava left the game with an ankle injury after only four minutes of action. Third on team at 16.7 ppg, first in rebounds at 9.1 rpg, and first on team and the nation in blocks at 4.8 bpg. And actually had 5 blocks vs WKU in those four minutes!
Going back to the old days - we are going to pregame at Pics! Come by and have a drink and some pizza rolls. Maybe they will even play the fight song for us like the old days.
Coach DâAntoni sounding somewhat coy about Penavaâs status.
The news on Penava took a turn for the positive this week. Not only did he not fracture the ankle he turned four minutes into the WKU game, the swelling on his sprain has gone down quickly.
He even did some shooting after practice Tuesday, with a light hop every so often.
DâAntoniâs low-end estimate of a two-week absence could prove prophetic. Then again, he might even return for the Charlotte-ODU trip.
"I expect him [back], probably not Thursday, though mayyyybe,â DâAntoni said. âSaturdayâs a better possibility; [he] will be back [for certain] for the next two games right here at home.â
WVGazettemail.com: Marshall basketball wonât flinch after grim defeat
Something youâd never see in the Big O - a pregame piece that not only discusses the differences between former coach Mark Price and current interim Houston Fancher but also includes comments from Marshall coach Dan DâAntoni.
Tomorrow weâll get the two-lines from Steve Lyttle that will probably include some sort of incorrect info.
And has Lyttle has done throughout football and now basketball season, he doesnât disappoint! While he does note that Penava is leading D-I hoops in blocks, nothing about the injury vs WKU that will most likely keep him sidelined tonight. Thanks Steve! :
