MASN

If you haven’t already, join the fight to bring MASN to Time Warner Cable. They will be showing some 49er basketball games this year more than likely:
http://www.playballnow.org/northcarolina/index.cfm?ID=51

Also they are now the official network of UNC Wilmington!

If you were athletics director of UNC Charlotte, would you not be leading some of the fight to get MASN on Charlotte’s TWC? Basketball games, a new baseball stadium that has the capabilitity to show games, and potential football games 5 years from now??? WHY are we not on top of this?

Who needs MASN when we have this:

Niner games on Public TV is better than Niner games on no TV at all. I wish we would persue that possibility on a more regular basis.

has anyone mentioned or sent and email to the AD about this?

I have never understood why games couldn’t be broadcasted on the UNCC television station. I’m sure it has to do with money and ratings but that channel is USELESS!!!

49ers TV won’t show nothun’!

Got this email today:

In the past few weeks, elected officials have listened to angry constituents and stepped up their own efforts to convince Time Warner Cable and Suddenlink to carry MASN.

The Attorney General’s office has already received over 200 consumer complaints, according to The Independent Weekly.
Even though thousands of you have signed the petition supporting MASN, Time Warner Cable still maintains that you are “not interested” in MASN’s sports programming, including North Carolina college sports.

Your friends at Play Ball Now

If you haven’t already, go to the link on my first post and sign up. We have ballgames on this channel, and having a big time showing on this program and the addition of football would only benefit our program. I am suprised the AD hasn’t taken an active stand in doing this.

More importantly, we need support from our Mayor. The Mayors of the towns listed sent letters b/c it effected the college programs in THEIR town.

What am I missing? Why wouldn’t Time Warner want to have MASN on the network?
What am I missing? Why wouldn’t Time Warner want to have MASN on the network?
Time warner does want MASN, MASN wants to be a standard cable channel. That means raising everyone’s rates by $5 a month.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner!!!

Money, or the fear of losing it. If they add a channel, they incur a cost which they will force the end users to pay. What they are fearful of is losing some of there clientbase (that do not care about having the channel) after their cable bill goes up again. If they give in and add MASN, new networks would also try the same bully tactic to get added on to TW. TimeWarner will add MASN eventually, but it will only be when they need to. Right now I would say this is what it boils down to:

Losing customers for increasing bill from adding MASN > Losing customers because MASN is not in channel lineup.

Now, when they start getting tons of calls from customers stating they are switching to satellite, the < sign will turn around and the channel will get added.

Get DirecTV. It’s better anyways.

That’s basically what I expected. you have DirecTV? do you use HD channels? Hows the quality? My TW bill is digusting right now so I’m looking for options.

I only want MASN if we can get all of our currently unbroadcast games on it.

Would be really cool if Bruno would get off her ass and negotiate a deal to get the entire league on a regional network like that.

Well, I do work for TWC.

That said, DirecTV vs TWC is customer dependant. I have had DirecTV and I liked TWC better, because we had a lot of problems with the dish, but that’s just me.

I just realized that I would need a phone line to connect to. I don’t have a home phone, never plan to. I guess I will stay with TW. I’m gonna have to do something about the cost though, it’s ridiculous. Any suggestions?

call customer service and threaten to leave for DirecTV.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but…

Why can’t they just add it, then give their subscribers the option of purchasing it for $5/month?

They can if it is on digital cable, but that is not how standard cable works. If something is added to standard cable, it is added to every household with standard cable.

With digital cable, you can trap out certain channels from the home office. With standard cable, you have to physically trap the channel out at the person’s home.

You don’t need a phone line for DirecTV unless you want instant ordering for movies, etc. You can order ahead of time via the internet. The programming info comes through the dish/coax. I’ve never used mine with a phone line and the installer told me that he never used a phone line either.

The quality is great. I plan to have HD within the month. The service has been interrupted maybe 5-6 times in the 4 years I’ve had it, and that was during very heavy rain. I had TW before, and it got knocked out that much by lightning.

Depending on what channels you want, you’re bill will likely be higher, but you will have many more channels. The main drawback to DirecTV is that they charge you $5/month for each additional receiver you have beyond the first one. This is really the only beef I have with them though.

PM me if you have any questions.

I have MASN and NFL Network and my bill with DirecTV is cheaper than it was with TW. When MASN was added, my bill did not go up either. I even have MASN2 which I didn’t know about until I stumbled upon it. They use that channel to show the Nationals/ Orioles game if there is a Nationals/ Orioles game on at the same time on MASN1. I’ve had DirecTV for 2 years and it has gone out maybe 3 times, the longest was 10 minutes. When I had TW it would go out at least once a month and for hours sometimes. Customer service was terrible also, that’s why I switched. Just my personal experience.

EDIT: I heard a commercial for MASN on teh radio that listed Charlotte as games they were showing.

EDIT2: I also signed the petition even though I don’t have TW.
