McCrory says Charlotte region needs a high-profile university

However, when McCrory was asked about challenges the region faces, he mentioned its lack of a high-profile university.

“UNC Charlotte engineering is getting that reputation now, but we’re still looking for that pedigree, that national stage,” he said. “We’re going to have to continue to market that.”

Guess he doesn’t know our football field doesn’t have a track around it.

So Gov Pat wants Major fired too? :))

clt says poochy’s uncle was at the event, and says the writer took editorial liberty with the governor’s comments.

So get rid of Dubois. He just wants to be little ol’ (unc)c and will not fight for a medical school but he just let another school open up another one here. Other schools know that doctors make donations down the road.

Keep this on the topic or it’s pumped to politcs board.

I’m not a fan of McCrory’s politics, but if he wants to use his position to encourage the growth and improve the status of our fine university, then I won’t get in the way.

EPIC could be the key to the university truly stepping on to the national stage. Energy production will be more and more important in the coming decades.

Bring a medical school to Charlotte!

Big words form the guv. Yeah, get the guv to lobby the unc board to give us one. He won’t, so we won’t (get one).

McCrory has spoken in support of a name change in the past.
Lets get him back on record as supporting a name change to the University of Charlotte.
This would help in moving to “high-profile” university status. Perception cannot be ignored!

north carolina needs a governor with a modicum of intelligence. :))

and that is a non-political statement.

This is a thread the about the advancement of the university so why don’t you use some intelligence and stay on topic.

A backhanded compliment at best by Phat Pat. Is he aligning with CHP to rename the school to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Charlotte Branch)? It not as high profile as it should be because the people who should be helping to sell it are not, Governor included. He’s in a position to help us get a lot of exposure and help sell the school to those that don’t know a lot about it based on the people he’s worked with here. Instead he tells the media that the school is not high profile. ???

I bleed green and love UNC Charlotte with every fiber of my being but we aren’t high profile. We all know this down inside. Our short history and our mission are the main reasons why we aren’t high profile. UNC Charlotte just needs more time to develop successful programs, build up its infrastructure, and increase the graduate base. I can’t remember any of the previous occupants of the statehouse doing anymore than ignoring our existence. You can interpret the comment through whatever bias you want but most would agree that UNC Charlotte needs more marketing as a great university.

clt says remember that poochys uncle was in the audience and the governor said that UNC Charlotte Is young and is starting to receive acclaim for its programs. Not high profile yet, but on the way.

The reporter added bias to the story. Shocking.

Politically-tinged posts have been moved to Politics where you can disucss the finer points of McCrory as a political entity. If you want and need access to Politics, PM a mod.

That said, please remain on topic. This is a potentially important statement for our university made by a person of power in the state of NC.
