If its a choice between possum, skunk, or don’t eat; eventually you’ll pick the better between skunk and possum. ;D[/quote]

No, you’ll go find a sheep, kill it, and eat it.

And now our illustrious leader weighs in; by begging his masters to be part of it one day and taking a swipe at Presbyterian. Classy Phil!

ninernation.net needs to put this on our backs.

We need our voices to be heard yet again.

I’m talking politcal signs throughout CMC/Presby area. We need a tag line. We need an email campaign to the BOG, our BOT, the Boards at both CMC and presby and our local government. Maybe even a trip to the BOG meeting in October.

Phil might have to bend over, but we don’t.

Great post.

If you guys haven’t emailed the board (link somewhere below), please do. There are so many of them, I didn’t personalize it for all of them, but they got my message.

I hope each of us will contact the people involved directly to let them know this is unacceptable. This is the email I sent to the folks I know whom I think will support us in this. Feel free to send it to your friends as well.

Subject: UNC Medical Branch School = Very bad for UNC Charlotte and Charlotte in general

Please pass this on if you agree with it to other UNC Charlotte Alumni and other concerned parties.

This is not good for UNC Charlotte or Charlotte and the surrounding region. This will put ZERO new doctors in Charlotte and take away the opportunity to improve our city and region’s economy and health without Raleigh having a greater say in it. This will preclude UNC Charlotte ever having a 4 year medical school and will lower the value of degrees from UNC Charlotte in relation to other city schools with medical schools. Charlotte, the 19th largest metropolitan region in the nation, is the largest city without its own medical school. The money in this state is made in the Charlotte region and benefits the east. This is another example of Charlotte and the surrounding counties being underserved by Raleigh. I hope you will be encouraged to let your state legislators, the administration at Carolina’s Medical Center and the UNC Board of Governors members know that this is a bad plan for Charlotte and our region. That we need and deserve a real public medical school ran by our public university to put doctors into our community; and not a Band-Aid program ran from the Triangle that’s more about control than providing adequate healthcare. Ask them for a UNC Charlotte School of Medicine.

Nicely done, I just caught a grammatical error and changed it above in red from ran to run.

Just the one? I’m getting better!

I noticed our BoT members no longer have their emails listed…except Megan.

If anyone can find the Charlotte City Council and the Mayor’s emails that would be a nice add to.

Why the hell did CHP sell out in the damn paper? I want a damn resignation letter or an apology on my desk by 5:00!

Contact your state Rep. & state Sen. Contact the Gov.
I’m planning on sending a nasty note to the Med Dean & the CHC Exec listed in the article, & a congratulatory note to the Presby Exec mentioned. & I’m going to send something to CHP letting him know his response was unacceptable, & I’ll TRY to keep it respectable.

The idea of this happening is so comprehensively bad for UNC Charlotte that I get a physically uneasy feeling when I think about it.

Someone in Chapel Hill definitely got to CHP because this is a 180 from want he said in the Business Journal last month. I try to give the guy a break because he can only do so much considering the UNC-CH love fest in this state but he didn’t have to hand them his balls on a plate! We will always be seen as second-rate in this region if another University puts their name on our medical program! And it pisses me off to no end!

This is 1 of 2 things:

Either he’s a complete patsy and willing to roll over and play dead for his owners.

Or they have him convinced that they’ll turn it over to UNC Charlotte in a few years to BECOME a 4 year medical school.

So, he’s either a tool or a fool, because they’ll never turn that over to us, NEVER!

Light Rail Champion = Medical School Fool. Sometimes I forget CHP didn’t grow up here and can’t possible comprehend the way NC politics works.

kath9dav needs to be shot.
Run along.
Crybaby.
Don’t deserve it.
it’s 1 system. (well then how come it’s always at CH’s advantage then?)
UNC Ikea
UNC Concord Mills.
Mocks our not having a law or dental school, while mocking us trying to get a med school. (Ok, if we don’t try, then how do we get what you say we don’t have?)

WTF?

The NC State guy has our back. Of course they’ve been putting up with CH crap for about 150 years.

I know they would think this was a crazy idea… but I say take the same amount of money the state is putting into this (20-30 million) from our endowment. It should be an easy sell in a recession.

“University starts Medical School with NO state funds!”

I mean honestly, we’re a state school and endowments aren’t that important since we’re funded annually by the state. Not nearly as important as having a medical school, at least!

Sadly enough, the BoG has compete control of all ACADEMICS at all member schools. If Bruton Smith gave us $200 Million tomorrow to start a medical school the BoG would still have to approve it. We’re trapped!
